Rising Storm/Red Orchestra 2 Multiplayer
A Steam-Sale Rookie's Impressions
!@#$*@#%@$$#!!, Why haven't I bought this game earlier? I am truly blown away by this. It's awesome, I love it.

It feels so fresh after playing 5 years of cod/bf/moh etc. The teamwork in this reminds me of my BF2 days. And yes, that is a massive compliment.

This game has a amazing atmosphere, I really feel like a WW2 soldier while playing this game. It really is a big deal to keep your head down or you simply die. The game is hard, I have been playing Realism mode exclusively. I heard somewhere that classic is suppose to be even harder?

After reading some of the discussions here before I bought Rising Storm. I was afraid I might run into a super-elitist community that will discourage noobs fairly easily. Now, after playing for roughly 10 hours. I must say this is only partially true. I did encounter some jack-asses. But over-all the people are very friendly and it's really common sense, I don't know how to effectively play the Flame-Thrower or Squad-leader class yet, So I don't pick them. Allot of people seem to have trouble understanding how much you handicap your team by playing your class wrong.

I found the American Arsenal to be considerably easier to use. With the M1 Garand giving you some more breathing room if you miss a shot. The BAR is a total powerhouse and I do feel like the Americans have more firepower (I suppose this is realistic and intentional?). Because of this I found myself , and more noobies (lower ranks?) sticking to the US side.

I've been having a go with the sniper and mainly rifle-man. But, I do plan on mastering the flamethrower as I have to honor my nickname :)
Some people pointed me towards the guide section on steam to learn more advanced classes like the flamer and SL/ TL.

I've had some pretty cool experiences from killing off a bunch of Banzai ♥♥♥♥(See video) to sprinting in a artillery barrage to the next objective. In short, I really enjoy this game, and I can see myself playing this alot more. :)

Here is a video of the things I come up with when ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan :)

Seems like your plan worked... with great success :P
But welcome, glad you like the game. just ignore the elitists and don't let them ruin your game. Reading some guides and watching some youtube videos is probably the best way to learn the classes, but sticking with Rifleman is best for new players.

Now while its true the Americans have more firepower and thats historically accurate, the Japanese of course have some advantages also, being banzaicharges, booby traps and MG bunkers.

And yes, Classic is alot harder, there is no zoom and you die from 1 bullet from any weapon, regardless where you get hit.
Welcome to the family :) It's true the americans have superior firepower but the japanese have some nice tricks. Their grenades can be placed as mines and they got banzai. Banzai takes a little skill to use but five banzai charging japanese are very hard to counter without a flamethrower. Banzai decreases stamina use and damage taken, so yeah useful :P
The BAR is a powerhouse and one of my favorite weapons to be honest. Another one is the shotgun (on an engineer). Really decent realistic range and well packs a punch.
Thats for the welcome guys :)
How do you use your grenades as mines?

And yea, I will stick with Rifleman for a while. Still having trouble finding my way at times. If I reload while having a half empty mag, will it go half-empty in my inventory like it does in Arma, or will it merge with my 'ammo pool'?
Ammo is liek ArmA, realy annoying if you're stuck defending for a long while and you run into almost empty clips :P

As for grenades, look down to the ground while on a soft surface like dirt and RMG. You then bury the grenade, only possible as a Japanese player with Japanese grenades. You can have two buried at any time, bury more and the first one disappears. Both explosions and flamethrowers detonate them though.
Another 'bug' about flamethrowers is that they melt bullets it seems... So don't take one head on.

Also you can press T to get the tactical menu up, and there it will show how many grenades you have buried, so you know if any have gotten destroyed. Really usefull on say Iwo Jima to put them in narrow places, you will get alot of kills that way :P
Or on the 'other' side of cover, so when the Americans hunker down, BOOM :D
Thanks for the tips guys. Does a flamethrower explode when you shoot the tank?
And, where does the bullet go on the japanese sniper scope? I can't hit anything with it.
Type 99 rifle is a bit inaccurate compared to the Type 38 and the US bolt action. Maybe the sniper is too? As for a exploding tank, notice how the tank is made of two parts? The explosive parts are mixed in the hoze so shooting the tanks IRL doesn't do a thing except draining the fuel. Ingame as well, no explosions for you.
I see, as for the scope, It's full of info, and I can't figure out what part shows where the bullet goes.

How refreshing to have a thread celebrating how great this game is! Welcome! Don't discount the Arisaka - the Type 99 is for me, the best bolt-action in Rising Storm. Also, Japanese heros can equip with Thompsons, etc. ;)

Welcome to the game man! I/we all were new once :) I'm an avid SL player on the American side (because, yeah, I have wet dreams involving Thompsons), and my best advice would be to mark artillery whenever you can, and communicate with the commander. Is your mark good? How long 'till arty? etc. That, and stay alive near the front. You're not only the artillery designator, you also function as a mobile spawnpoint for your squad, so find a good defensive position as close to the fighting as you dare to go, and thus cut the traveltime of your men to the front!
Thanks for the SL tips and kind words guys :) , I've been having a go at it myself. I guess I did a average job. Tried to stay alive best I could. I often get shot in the face trying to place good markers though. any good tips on that?
Isn't that one weirdly balanced with a dozen BARs etc?
