why do soldiers shoot pistols with just one hand?
for a game that is all about realism this is really, really, unrealitic.

in real life people shoot pistols both hands, it greatly reduces the recoil and improves accuracy.

at first i thought that it's because they are just holding their primary weapon in their second hand, thus improving switch times. nope, taking out the pistol is painfully long and it's clear that they are not holding anything in their second hand.

so what the hell?

a) Most effective doesn't mean it's what someones taught. I'm no expert but it wouldn't surprise me if Pistol shooting like that was a historical thing

b) RO2 while a realism focused game absolutely has some war movie flair in how it presents itself. The pistols may well be part of this flair because the sight of a commander mowing people down arm outstretched looks cool as ♥♥♥♥.

because that's how you intimidate the enemy silly.

Actually, combat training with the .45 pistol in my day and age emphasized firing the weapon with one hand only. I do not remember any exercises with the .45 pistol that involved the use of both hands. As a one-one bravo, I qualified on all small weapons, and later up to the 105mm howitzer plus tank familiarization. Two-handed shooting originated in civilian circles for such things as target shooting. The .45 pistol is a blunt weapon designed to knock assailants on their cans (generally permanently) from very close ranges; accuracy out beyond 10 feet or so is thus not at issue.

they don't train you to shoot Howitzers down at the local rifle range! ;-)

It's also funny how one of the founder of Tripwire is also said to be a gun enthusiast. Doesn't seem like it too me.

I always assumed that it was a matter of presenting a smaller target.

That and a larger arc/aiming angle with quicker reaction times

You know sometimes these soldiers do use two hands, usually at prone or crouched.

Pistols are shot with one or two hands (one to assist your grip).
But to shoot a pistol in one hand you have to have strong angles/muscels, experiance- imagine a loaded gun beeing dropped because of recoil.
Constant training allows you to hit a target only pointing at it - you don't aim anymore at close range.
In training you look at the target - close your eyes- point the gun to target - open your eyes - verify where your aiming at - if your good, you're already aiming at the target. Automatism... .
Effective range of pistols about max 50m.

As mentioned above it was common practise to use one hand in close range. Awesome video btw, only ever seen photos before.

The thing with that video is it shows combat handgun training not every soldier at the time received, for most it was the shooting range training shown in the beginning of the video and there everybody is shooting with one hand (at least while standing). It was simply how a regular soldier was trained in that day and age.

And about using two hands when crouched or prone: 3D Animation is hard work.

More epic, but not too much reallistic sometimes... it really depends, if you shoot "to a zone" is really epic to shoot with one hand, if you're just clearing trenches, i think it's more reallistic to carry pistol with two guns.

Cuz is way cooler and inspirational to my allies when with no ammo left on my main i just charge trough the smoke with my P38 and shoot in the head 3 russians in the trench.
