In some thread I saw someone to say there are 1-2 full servers all the time - that doesn't seem to be much.
If you look at the steam charts it says there is average 300-350 player - at peak around 700 players. But those players are across all the regions and lot of them will play modded games, so the final number is unclear. And because it is an older game the populace will get only smaller.
I will probably go for Vietnam
There's always a server full or 2/3rds full for you to enter in NA, EU, RUS and JP/CN for RedOrchestra2. The few of us that are left are dedicated players and as such the community is largelly very friendly and you'll often find the same buddies playing together everyday. For Rising Storm it's grimmer..., I don't know about NA but there's 1 or 2 servers in EU that constantly go from full to almost empty throughout the day and then there's a JP one that's always full but good luck with ping there.
The playerbase is small and you won't have full matches going all day and night like in recent titles but it doesn't feel dead. Dead games are ones you enter and find nobody around you or never manage to get a lobby going, this is not it. You will find many more servers crowded on weekends naturally though.
If your question is due to the ongoing discount giving it a 5€ price tag then yes it is very well worth the money and no it won't be a waste. I can understand you being scheptical with it's original price tag but with a discount it's a bargain worth every cent.
As for Petr I'd like to ask something: What makes a difference between having 1 or 2 full servers all day vs having hundreds of equally full and half-full ones? As long as it's there and you can get a full match going what does it matter when you only ever get to play one at a time? It would matter if cheaters were a common sight in that one server but over here we have our ways of dealing with them on the spot... not that they ever show up anymore but there's that.
Next year we will be going on the 10th Anniversary of RO2 and we have 1-6 full servers per day during week,in all timezones, and it fills up even more in the weekends.
From all the people i know from RO2 and RS1 most if not all dont play in modded servers and we have been getting an increase in numbers recently so the game is far from dead.
Also a game being old doesnt necessarily mean its dead, and ro2 its the prime example. a game going to its 10th year with 300-700 players its pretty damn good.
Even tho a good portion of vets(mostly from rs1 and some from ro2) went over to Vietnam they have been returning to ro2 and rs1 due to its unique "enviroment lets put it".
TL DR: Game is alive and well.
Well, I´ve never said the game is dead. I think you misinterpreted my comment. And I´ve never said the game is dead because it´s old. I just stated that the playerbase will get gradually smaller, which seems as a pretty logical deduction.
No hate, just my observation.
The Vietnam Scenario is just boring ...
WW2 is much more interesting
