MG-42 Belt Ammo Annoyance
So my favourite gun in the game, and probably of all time is the MG42.
In red orchestra the last upgrade, the belt fed ammo (250 rounds) really annoys me. Here's why.

You get the first belt of 250 rounds, and 1 reload belt of 50. Not only is the 50 not even worth the reload but people always run up to me and give me ammo, I hear the noise and the message pops up, but you dont get any ammo as you can only hold 1 reload, the 50 round belt you get given at spawn. This can be incredibly frustrating as I find myself reloading to my 50 round belt at spawn and just shooting it into the sky just to get rid of the damn thing and make room for a 250 round belt from an ammo supply or a teammate.

Does anyone else find this annoying? Or do you perhaps just use multiple drums with the level 2

The 2nd belt is a 100 round belt which can get upgraded to a 250 round belt if you go to an ammo box.

But yes I do think the 3 100 round belts at the level 25 upgrade is a better deal.

The ammo distribution perk which is tied to your class level also plays a role. So if you are only level 4 MG using a level 50 MG42 that 2nd belt will be less than 100 rounds. Plus you get some glitches with resupplying such as collecting multiple "belts" of 10-30 rounds. Gets worse the lower class level you are.

Yeah I am a level 4 MG, 78/80 with 32078/5333 class experience lol, that damn grind is a little unbalanced. Either way thanks for the quick response, I havent actually tried "topping" up that belt before. I just figured it wouldnt work as when someone gives me ammo I havent noticed any difference in the 2nd belt.

Will give it a shot now, and hopefully finally reach level 80.

Another thing, while I have the attention of such an experienced player, I googled around trying to find what the perks are of having the hero status in game but couldnt seem to find anything other than the player model.

Do you have a good source for this information? Thanks

When you spawn, just go straight to an ammo box and you'll top up your short belt instantly.

Hero will normally just give you access to the opposing side's weapons for that class and you'll also spawn with more ammo (you only spawn with it though, when you resupply you get your usual amount). For stat bonuses I believe they're the same as Level 5 High Decorated. If you want to see the stat bonuses (like bonus ammo and suppression resistance), just click "Profile Stats" from the main menu and then click "Class Progress", you'll see them on the right of the screen.

Just thank God you are not using the 'belts' as they are for real. The belts came in 50rd non-disintigrating link belt which you can link together to make these 250rd belts. Now imagine for example that you have fired off 100rds, so you have 150rounds and belt out the left side of the gun, and a empty 100 round length hanging out the right and all the tangle potentials therein.

Keeping track of and not tangle footing a 100rd disintigrating link belt out of a M-60 Machine gun was a challenge to say the least. Again the 'fantasy' of a wargame.

As an infantryman I carried the 240B with 1000 spare rounds and never had a tangle, just 'jingle jangle'.

If you look at Profile Stats in the main menu you can see all the various perks and things.

You can see the perks of being a hero in the profile stats?

You still had those cute little 100rd boxes right, never more than 100rds hanging off the gun at any one time, right. Try it one day in the Central Highlands rather than open desert.

Just switch between the mg34 and the mg42 between maps. I prefer the mg34 for ammo convesation in where i cant just simply walk to a supply box or be supplied by friendlies. Bridges is a great example on the first 3 objectives.Tend to use the mg42 on maps such as fallen fighters, apparements, barracks etc...

But if I used the Mg34 no one will hear me BBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRPPPPPPTTTTT-ing

Realistically it's a 2 men job. 1 carry ammunitions, 1 shoot the gun. In rare case one will carry a 500-1000 rounds box and his partner will just have fun over-heat the gun. Nowdays, peeps run around with a couple of 200rd pouchs. In game though, no one will want to carry your ammunitions.

It was the job of the entire squad to support the MG in german squad tatics. At least thats what ive learned.
