So tripwire abandoned Ro2
To make rising storm 2 (which was just the same game reskinned)

Now they are making 83' and will drop RS2 after barely two years after release. No doubt it will cost another 40 euro for a few reskinned armies on the same old unreal engine 3

Lesson is: go play ro2 vanilla, like real men

It's sad to RO2 go, it seems like the games with the most potential never last as long as they should.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't working on a new update suggest otherwise? https://forums.tripwireinteractive.com/forum/rising-storm-2-vietnam/rs2-vietnam-general/general-discussion-ag

The thread is about Red Orchestra 2 being abandoned. Your link on the update is for Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. They are different games. And that is also the point the OP is making. "They abandoned Red Orchestra 2 to work on Rising Storm 2."

What do you mean abandoned? RO2 is in a very good state I would say. The only problem I've had is the dwindling playerbase. I don't see why they would change anything.

RS2 was quite ambitious compared to RO2; its not simply a reskin.

It's going to be dead in a year, it already took a huge hit the past 2 years.

Thank God for Post Scriptum because taking this game to a fake 1983 Cold War scenario is the dumbest idea they could have done. It's like they're trying to win over the Call of Duty fans.

Guys, games get abandoned. Dev's cannot run when they aren't pulling new sales. That's why they make new titles.

Frankly, If they just remade RO2 in RS2's engine and then slapped "RO3" on it I would have been much happier. I would have bought it for sure. But it probably would not have made them a bunch of money like RS2 did.

It sucks, but it's the cold reality. If TWI didn't do stuff like this, they simply wouldn't exist.

But serious, get RS2 for the Winter War mod. Huge step back from the giant map pool that RO2 has, but it's RO2's gameplay with TWI's latest build of UE3. That means better framerate, better sound quality, better particles, better textures, less hitching, better overhead map, radiomen. All of the good changes without the "deathmatch feel" of RS2.

"To give feedback and to be notified about the future playtests, come join us in the mod's Discord:

Pay attention to this, I think it's going to be awesome.

This post could literally not be more wrong. Tripwire did not develop RS2, Antimatter Games did, and it was co-published by Tripwire Interactive and Iceberg Interactive. Antimatter Games then broke away from Tripwire completely and is working on 83' independently, with no involvement whatsoever by Tripwire. The FAQ for 83' states that it is being developed on UE4.

That being said, RO2 is not "abandoned"; development on it has just been fully completed, and like basically every other game before it, it will continue to exist as it is as long as people still play it. RO2 released 8 or 9 years ago and had a full-fledged expansion and several content updates afterwards. It's no longer profitable to keep updating it, so the company has moved on to developing other things. That's how product development works. RS2 is also not being "dropped", it's content roadmap is just ending. Servers will still be hosted for years to come, so the game is not going anywhere. Again, companies can not just endlessly provide content updates to products that are not longer generating revenue.

I did not realize they had separated.

Welcome to the marketplace of gaming. Tripwire has moved on to more projects and an 8 year old game is not on 'the list'. Nature of the beasts of commerce. Great car the Hudson, was loved when introduced, how many on the road today?

BTW there are still those of us that play Mare Nostrum mod from RO series, support dropped before RO2 was even released.

RS2 did feel a lot like COD. Biggest reason I dont really play it.
RO2\RS with its human waves feels like a COD too tbh. xD But its funnier than Squad\PR(AAS mode) anyway.

what do you spect, saying this is like idk, to make the devs keep updating killing floor 1 or the first red orchestra, like come on man, this game is amazing but come one, they as a company need to move on

Well, i suppose it's off to Tannenberg! The developers are active and have just put out an update.

Sure, most of the games are populated by bots at the moment, but rumors are that it's fun nonetheless.
