1) Navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Red Orchestra 2\Binaries\Windows
2) Run RO2Redist to install RS/RO2.
3) Run pbsvc_hos to install Punkbuster.
The following redistributables are required for Windows 10 and 11 (not just for this game, but other legacy games as well. Just covering the bases here):
1. Visual C++ Redistributables 2005 through to 2022. Either install them all from TechPowerUp's Visual C++ Redistributables All-In-One repository, or check the Steamworks Common redistributables tool on Steam for them.
2. Current NVIDIA PhysX System Software Redistributables (Applies to AMD and Intel GPU users as well), and the PhysX System Software Legacy version 9.13.0604 Redistributable for games such as Mirror's Edge and similar older Unreal Engine 3 games are warranted here.
3. .NET Framework 3.5. This is an Optional Feature in Windows 10 and 11 that one must enable within Programs and Features, or otherwise from other internal settings in Windows.
4. Legacy DirectX Runtimes from June 2010. these can be found in the Steamworks Common Redistributables tool's DirectX subfolder in Browse Local Files for that. Run DXSETUP.exe from there.
5. Run pbsvc_hos.exe manually from RO2's Browse Local Files section. This will manually install the PunkBuster anti-cheat's Services component if the InstallScript failed to. You do not actually need to fully set up PunkBuster to play most of the game's servers or ranked; just this one component, as apparently the game checks for it on startup and can get fussy if it is not installed at all.
6. See if something is blocking the game from or conflicting with its usual writing to its config directory, located in a Documents subfolder path by default as is customary for UE3. Antivirus software's User Account Controlled Folder Access or similar protective features, or OneDrive's Back Up and Sync feature can conflict with this.
7. Recently, not having the Xbox app installed from the Microsoft Store seems to not be playing nice with certain titles, or generally breaking things down where the MS Store app itself is concerned. See if reinstalling it (if it was removed previously) seems to help here.
That is all I have for now. Feel free to report back.
Ohhh... I did absolutely everything for this game... I did everything on this list + watched various videos on this topic. Nothing helped. the only thing I achieved was the appearance of error 0xc000007b but I just can’t solve it and this is the only game that behaves this way, all the others, even the older ones (star wars repablic commando) work well. I don’t know what to do, I reinstalled everything 10 times, nothing helps...
I also wrote to the developers on the site in technical support, but there is still no answer, apparently they closed it a long time ago
if you have the same problem, you need to go to Windows, then SysWOW64 and scroll down to d3dx9_24.dll. Delete everything from this file to d3dx11_43.dll (all libraries from dx9 to dx11). If the system does not allow you to delete, then configure the necessary permissions. Next, download the new dx package from the Microsoft website and install it. In the game compatibility settings, enable "run in 800x600 resolution" (well, this is in my case because otherwise the window did not open, only the sound from the game was played). Restart the computer and everything worked for me!
Deleting the corrupted runtime .DLL files and replacing them worked for you. However, forcing the game to run in 800x600 for Compatibility Mode should not be necessary. That may be something to look into undoing later, but for now, the playable state is fine.
Uninstall that unstable junkware. [/quote]
As for the game running, as TS2 said, its probably something like a dotnet or other redist, maybe just run the ones that are in the steam common redist set. I dont know which specific ones this game uses. I wouldnt bother with pb it would probably only make more problems.
Where did you learn the effects of that direct X set of libraries, and how to get the appropriate compatible ones for this game?
Also why in the world would you touch PB?
Many a Bad Company 2, BF3, BF4, and BF Hardline kick occurred for that simple reason of not manually setting up both of PB's components. Here, it just expects 1 of them to pass some startup check, and from there one can play as normal on servers not running PB.
