Controller support
It only states partatial support, so can any one who has purchased the game let me know who good controller support is. I take it that the game will use dinput on the windws version due to its age.

you can use a x-box 360 controller on the 1998 (haven't tried but heard it works) CD BUT the Steam releases here are missing the 1995 DOS CD with imuse. If you look around to which site first had the exclusives, you can see what's coming next and get the DOS cd's...

yes it does work very well for me. might still need a keyboard for some commands that is the case in x-wing alience but i did play some of the pilot proving grounds in this game and the controller was all i needed for those.

Used my Xbox One controller for the original (Classic) version. Left stick worked, Right stick I think was throttle (didn't notice) and Y button toggled the ship dashboard on/off. Still messing around with it.

Edit: OK, right stick didn't do anything

in xwing allience the right stick up and down is roll... seems odd but i didnt test it in the other games yet

Controller support is sufficient, you will still need to use a keyboard in combination with a controller or joystick though as there simply aren't enough buttons on a traditional controller or joystick for all of the available controls.

cheers for your help. As longs as the flight controls work fine I don't mind using the keyboard for power configs etc. I had the 1995 realse but got rid years ago. Always wished I had kept it. Great game.

If you haven't actually purchased it yet might I make a recommendation? Feel free to ignore it but you might want to consider purchasing from GoG, the price is about the same but you get 3 versions of X-Wing (and Tie Fighter) on GoG, the extra one you get there that you don't get here is the Collector's Edition CD-Rom version which is often regarded as the definitive version.

Not trying to tell you what to do, just something you might want to consider before purchasing.

Hi Chris

I think the one on GOG will be the winner. I'll give it a day or 2 to see if they update the steam version to match
Tho the games might somewhat work with a controller i think a joystick is pretty much essential to play the game to its full potential. Also these games are actually pretty difficult so mushy controls will ruin missions where time is of the essence.

I'd recommend gog too, extra version..but most of all a nice and detailed strategy guide (about300 pages) that is wrapped in a nice SW pilot fiction.

Would the Steam Controller be a good controller for the Xwing games? I want to get a decent game controller, and was leaning towards the 360 controller, but the Steam Controller would be nice, but I want one that will work with the Xwing games.

yeah the steam controller wont work with these game very well mostly because they run in dos/dosbox and the steam controller just doesnt get along. there are some ways around that like creating a windows profile and switching manually per game but that is annoying. i have found that these game get along with the xbox360 pad much better than i ever expected

edit you read more on that here http://steamcommunity.com/app/353370/discussions/0/490123197951615840/
