X-Wing 1998 Pilot File Editor

I've created a pilot file editor for X-Wing 1998. You can download the installed from my DropBox:

It's pretty simple to use. Backup your pilot files before using, just in case.

Feel free to post here with comments or bug reports.

Fantastic work JM, it works perfectly (I tried it on a Win 8.1 PC). I was going back to hex editing to 'fix' a few things, but this is so much simpler. Thanks.

Any chance you could do one up for TIE Fighter too?

I would love to adapt it for Tie, but I don't have any of the hex offset mappings. If I had that I would be able to do the conversion pretty quickly. If you know of a resource, let me know.

Also, I found a bug when your switching Tour's of Duty. It kind of gets confused when you go between them. I'm working on a fix. So heads up on that.

Hah, well, I worked them all out by trial-and-error, back in the day (mid 1990s...). Pity I didn't keep the map!

I think I found something online from back in 1995. It looks like a good start, so I'll probably start on that in July. I'll keep you posted.

I've updated this to fix a bug with setting the current tour and operations complete. Same download link as above. Next I'll begin working on a version for Tie Fighter.

If anyone has a tie fighter pilot file (.tfr) that I can use, let me know how I can get a hold of it and it will speed up the development process of the editor for tie fighter. Most helpful if your pilot is pretty advanced in the game.

Something I discovered when using this today. I crashed at the end of ToD 4 Mission 5 right as the victory music played. So I updated the "Missions Completed" from 4 to 5. Now when I go to the tour I'm on Mission 6, and it starts off on the 6A briefing. But if I hit the 6B button to switch to the alternate mission it gives me the mission 1 briefing.

I understand that people might have reasons not to want to, but I'd like to ask anyone to publish such projects as OpenSource on github. That gives them a chance to survive a bit longer than some dropbox share or the time and interest of the original author.
It's kind of sad to see the same programs reimplemented over and over again (though hopefully at least the authors had some fun).
