STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition

STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition

Classic works fine, Special Edition says I need a joystick?
Hi all, I'm having a problem launching the special edition of the game. I'm getting a message saying I need a joystick whenever I run it. I'm able to play the classic edition of the game with my mouse and keyboard and the game runs absolutely fine. Thought the special edition would of been the same.

My laptops running Win 10 64-bit.

Cheers for the help in advance.

The only solution for this... is you pluging in a joystick :P

Special Edition (and X-wing vs TIE Fighter or X-Wing Alliance) require a joystick to play. The original X-Wing and TIE Fighter versions let you to use the mouse to move the ship, but that changed on later games and versions.

A gamepad may do the trick, tho.

Honestly, you really don't want to try to play these with a mouse. Even in the old DOS version, the mouse + keyboard approach was really never that viable.

Shizzle, that sucks a wee bit, I'll probably just stay on classic then for now. I'll try save for a xbox controller or something. Thanks for clearing that up guys.

You can pick up a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick for, like, $30 on Amazon.com. That's what I used for years. Or get one that allows you to do a yaw twist by twisting the joystick itself. Although that one comes in handy more for XvT and XWA than for X-wing and Tie Fighter.

Thanks for the suggestion, that looks perfect for this, but if I'm dropping that kind of cash on a controller it'll need to be one I can use on other games. I'd love a joystick but can't afford it to work on only a handful of games. That's defo on my birthday list.
