Music Fix
If your X-Wing stopped playing music during missions recently, like mine did, here's a fix:

1. Go to the game directory (......\Steam\steamapps\common\STAR WARS X-Wing\remastered) and rename winmm.dll to win32.dll
2. Open XWING95.exe with a hex editor (I'm using Hex Editor MX), do a text search for WINMM.dll and replace it with WIN32.dll. Don't forget to save the file when you close the editor.

That's it.

EDIT: This should fix the issue with music stopping/not looping after a while:

Download https://www.vogons.org/download/file.php?id=27848 and extract everything to the game folder. Then rename winmm_nomciclose.dll to win32.dll.

Thank you, works for me Windows 10 64-bit. I'm guessing winmm.dll conflicts with some system dll.

copy winmm from GOG release and it will work fine.

I tried this renaming fix. the music was still playing but finished after +-1h of play.
Then, i tried opening the win32.dll file with the HEX editor too. Text searched for any "winmm", changing into "win32" too

it's not working either

Tried this: went to the directory and renamed the file, then I used a hex editor to rename the winmm.dll file and then saved it with the new name and the game wouldn't even start. So I changed the name back and now the game works again minus the music, same as before.

What gives?

Do you get an error message?
Sutehp Jun 26, 2017 @ 8:15am
I did, but I don't remember what it said. I'll try it again and let you know.

EDIT: It said "The application was unable to start correctly (0x000007b). Click OK to close the application."

Does this mean anything to you, Teleguy?

Where did that winmm.dll come from? Did you use the one already in the game directory, download it from vogons.org or copy it from the Windows folder?

I followed the instructions from https://steamcommunity.com/app/354430/discussions/0/487870763315685091/ to get X-Wing and Tie Fighter to work on Windows 10. (BTW, I posted there that Tie Fighter wasn't working, but I tried it again and now it is, minus the in-flight music.) But to answer your question, I'm pretty sure I copied it from the Windows/System32 folder. That was what the other thread told me to do, right? I certainly didn't download it from vogons.org.
