STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition

STAR WARS™: X-Wing Special Edition

Remake! Remake! Remake!
LucasArts have done it before with Monkey Island, and I think they (Disney / LucasArts?) should do the same with the X-Wing / Tie Fighter / X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter games, with mouse support, high res improved textures, but kept faithful to the originals

Do a remake, and I'll buy.
I'm not going to buy this though.

Thanks anyway

I very much doubt they'll read your writing here, because these are player forums. The appropriate way to contact them is directly, e.g. by doing a websearch to find an email address and/or phone number to use.

I'd buy these in a heartbeat. X-Wing and Tie-Fighter (Not X-Wing vs.Tie Fighter though) are among the best games ever made.

Potentially

Totally agree, I loved X-wing so much.
We had a 286 processor at the time, and unable to use EMM386. The game required EMS memory, we could only use XMS memory, and had to find a way to get it to run in 640K conventional memory.

Spent hours / days tinkering with config.sys / autoexec.bat
Could only manage upto the level where you have to recon the capital ships in your A-Wing, lasers and shields off, going maximum speed to outrun the tie-fighters.

Always crashed as it run out of memory :'(

Good times!

Bah, they're easy enough, all you need is six torpedoes and ion cannons. After that you just need a little patience boring into it with lasers. (Y-Wing Historical Mission 5, I took one down)

This has about the same probabilty of happen as them seeing your post on these forums, but... I'd like to see them convert and import all the mission files into the next incarnation of the game. So we could enjoy all the classic gameplay and missions with the newer graphics, targeting systems, craft, and loadout options.

agree with OP, with the success of Elite and Star Citizen (financially) it's clear space "sims" are still popular. I'm certain an updated XWing and TIE Fighter would sell by the bucket load. Hell I bought the original XW and TIE then I got the CD collectors of both and now I just bought this so I've bought them THREE times ffs (too lazy to get the CDs working). I also picked up XW v TIE and XW Alliance so I've bought those twice now.

I drool at the thought of XWings and TIEs in elites graphics.

I'd also vote for remakes of Freespace 1+2.

Some private modders are working on a major graphical overhaul mod it so it runs on the unity engine, plus some UI changes. They're optimistic that they're going to release a demo soon. Not sure if it qualifies as a remake, but holy crud it looks amazing:

Yeah it does look amazing, looking forward to its release

The only way to see this game remastered.

Now that Disney and EA has dismembered LucasArts there is no way we are going to see another SW ships simulator of this nature.
