It's implied with the withered corpse. The skull would be underneath the putrid, potentially leathered skin.

From what others have said, human bodies were never Scott's strong suit in previous games. Add in the fact that the eyelids have probably rotted off at this point and the cartilage of the nose as well.
The idea of these images are to convey a sense that he wishes to escape the suit. Plus to disturb the audience. I think Scott did a good job at that.
That is certainly an interesting theory. They never say where they found the suit. The lack of oxygen would certainly help to preserve the body.
Oh, also a thought. If they didn't know he was in the suit and he somehow was hanging on by a thread, the oxygen running out certainly would have finished him off. Either way, you make a good point.
