The Ending Explained [FNAF3 Spoilers]
We now know once and for all that Purple Guy is Phone Guy, and both of them are Springtrap.

In FNAF1, in our last message from Phone Guy we hear his apparent death while he was at the pizzaria at night. We assumed that Freddy, Bonnie, Chica or Foxy killed him, when in fact it was neither. In the end of FNAF 3 we are treated to a final mini game where you play as the spirit of one of Purple Guy's victims (notice the weepy eyes similar to the marionette). Purple Guy runs from the spirit and tries to hide in a yellow animatronic suit, but ironically, the suit activates and starts to spasm, breaking his bones, crushing his organs and killing him horribly.

Here is what happened:

On Night 6 in FNAF 3 we hear an old recording of Phone Guy mentioning that the "safe rooms" (the walled up room Springtrap was found in) in most locations were being walled off and that nothing inside would be removed. That night, Phone Guy/Purple Guy is at the diner. The spirit of one of his victims (possibly his first victim) which processes the marionette chases him. He tries to hide in a spare suit in the safe room, but the animatronic suit turns on, killing him horribly. Sometime after that, the room is walled up with the suit, and P.G. Still inside.

Fast forward to FNAF 3, the room is discovered and Springtrap is found and taken immediately to "Fazbear's Frights" attraction.

It all fits together perfectly. We now now for sure, Phone Guy is Purple Guy. They hid in the Springtrap suit, were ultimately killed by it and were walled off and forgotten for 30 years, then resurrected for a horror attraction that ended up being real.

Completely impossible. The phone guy in one of the audio recordings says that Springtrap's suit must not be worn under any circumstances. Meaning, he already knew what would happen if someone tried to climb inside it, so the purple guy must have not seen that animatronic before, when he entered it. The purple guy was neither told nor aware of the danger that animatronic presents to employees. That being said, the phone guy was killed in the security room, given that the animatronics were banging on the doors. There aren't any other viewable doors apart from the ones you were able to open and close.

More importantly, PG specifically references the fact that the suit malfunctioned and killed somebody (Night 4).
