This is definitely a single player adventure where humor plays a huge part of the game experience. In many ways it is like Bastion, but with a humorous approach and retro aesthetic.
The biggest aspect in termos of replay value would be finding all the secrets / items and easter eggs. There's a lot of hidden stuff in the game's world, so completionists should take a while to find it all.
You can just teleport to the start of any area previously completed and explore from there.
On the 360 pad, the button is "select".
Also theres the new survival challenge mode as cbordeu mentioned.
I have only just completed the campaign. I have yet to play survival and although I appear to have collected all the ranged and melee weapons, they are not all fully maxed out upgrade wise and so I would like to explore further to find the required parts and solve any additional puzzles along the way.
Additionally the stats and perks on the avatars available are mysteriously - barely half - of their visible maximum despite having my having completed the campaign and taken a little extra time to search around for extra bits.
This intrigues me, I might expect say 3/4 of maximum experience earned by the end of a regular game like Fallout 3 for example. Obviously two very different games but the principle is that to me it implies there is much much more for me yet to find and gain experience wise.
So for me, survival mode aside, I am quite keen to go back in to the campaign and enjoy exploring every nook and cranny of this cleverly designed environment.
Regarding enemy respawns - for places I have already explored and committed mass murder, I have not seen them re spawn. Mostly.
Update: I just started a new game and selected the "Hard Mode" option and noted I still had all the areas open to me. I visited an early dinosaur area and found that there actually were some enemies where previously I had killed them all, and they were obviously tougher.
I will enjoy this game for a while yet and my respect to the developers for creating it.
I am very curious of their term "hand crafted" as its really something climbing higher and higher and seeing the familiar old ground remain and yet subtly change depending on perspective in turn teasing another opportunity or puzzle just out of reach? I love the B movie atmosphere and being able to look for references and easter eggs...
... but the icing on the cake world be:
A possibility, during the campaign of levelling up your avatar with all those perks and weapons etc and being able to USE that effort - either by carrying the stats over into a special kind of single or co op "survival plus" with unique defined waves and custom rule sets maybe, in the vein of "new game plus" where your gear and stats carry over but you have harder dificulty etc.
Im aware there are difficulty levels and starting a new game with "hard mode" selected does carry your gear over like a classical new game plus mode but im still exploring that option.
I will enjoy taking the time to further explore and level up because I love the world they have created and Im kind of a completionist. But if this effort was rewarded with further challenges to use it all with, that would be ACE!!! (pardon the pun)
As an example look at the hero mode and new game plus modes of Defenders Quest. Suddenly your well equipped archers dont feel so elite!
I still intend to fully explore though. It would be rude not to lol.
Have you managed to land on that blue ghost ship thing that circles around the base of the tower sometimes - presumably from a high dive?
I think theres an achievement about making contact with a ghost captain.
Ive yet to succeed.
There are a couple of tiny islands too scatted around, most of them have a cog or two.
After completing the game, I did a couple of basejumps from the top floor and I kept scanning the tower for any collectibles, or alcoves during my descent. Only had to put post processing to dvd and disable motion blur, to clear the picture little a bit. I think it makes it easier to spot when hunting for the last missing pieces.
Cheers
