HDMI input on the back
What would that ever be used for on a computer? I thought HDMI-in was only used for stuff like recievers?

The Steam Machine is also a receiver. You can connect any device to it that utilizes HDMI. Your cable box, dvd/blu-ray player, ect. This way, you can seamlessly switch between both inputs on the Steam Machine without having to change the TV input.

Currently, the Xbox One has this same feature. So we are not claiming to be revolutionizing anything here. But its proven to be a nice feature that many people use and enjoy.

Sounds good enough. Is it something that's released with SteamOS itself or is it code/software from Dell?

I know that the switch will happen with the steam controller (or K+M) within Steam OS. I do not know if this is an extra for the Alienware Steam Machine or standard across all hardware. I'll try to find out.

I have been told this is an Alienware feature embedded into Steam OS.

I would really like to know how well this works, and if it acts as a passive hdmi pass-through when the steam machine is in low power mode / standby. Particularly interested how HDCP protected sources are handled, as any hdmi input I've been able to find for my normal gaming pc have caused the hdcp flag on dish recievers to turn off the video.

so i have purchased the alienware steam machine. switching from steamos to the input is easy. hit the button in the center of the controller. it is the top option. i can't figure out how to get back to steamos. :(

there is any delay using this pass-through? i read that you cant use XboxOne pass-through with PS4 because you will see delay in the game, for watching TV its usefull but for an secondary console not...

this issue is present here too?

I am trying to use the pass through with an intel compute stick plugged into it and it dont pass through....

I am wondering if the port is working or if there is software I need or If it hates what the stick is spitting out. is it auto or do I have to flip a switch I have been looking for it on the machine and in the software and I dont see one.

I trun it off it wont pass though I turn it on it still blank I plug it into monitor directly and it works......

you need to make sure the stick is on. hit the steam button on the controler. then select it from the list

@ cube
no problem
can you power your intel stick via usb? Did you get the windows or ubuntu stick/

The usb port on the machine? Never tried it. I was having problems powering it in full power mode so I had to buy a high powered charger, it would reset all the time even with the included adaptor.

I dont think it has enough power for it.

its the windows one on dual boot it has extra ram. the linux one is 1gb the windows is 2gb, they have newer models though I have had this one a long time. it's the first one.

it stopped when I got a high powered dual charger.
