Steam Link on Raspberry Pi 4 with AMD Hardware
Hi,
first of all: Thank you for the ability to stream my games around my house! I'am using it now since 2016.
Now i have new Hardware and also new problems ;)

Host PC:
Ryzen 5 2600 + RX 5700 XT + Full HD 144Hz

Client:
Raspberry Pi 4 + Android 9 4K OLED TV

If i stream via my wired network i have absolute no problems to stream until 1080p. HEVC is in Client disabled. Work's so far.
With the new abilitys i want to stream in WQHD or in UHD to my TV. I've bought an simple 4K Monitor Emulator for my pc to have the ability to stream in 4k. (I don't want to set custom resolutions or active DSR in Radeon Adrenaline 2020).

So if i set some games to UHD (tested portal 2, GTA V and Turok) then the games are rendered correctly but the stream is only @1080p.

If i activate HEVC in Raspberry Pi then i got some flicker from the Steam Link Overlay and the stream itself looks absolute to big. That means i have only a very small area that will be streamed. (Mostly the Left,Top Corner). If i deactive the Hardware Encoder on Host PC i can stream in 4k but the performance is unplayable.

Is there any solution for this problem? Anything i could try?

Oh sorry - didn't see it.

Yes the limits are set to 4k on Host and Client.

Tuesday i think.
Steam Link Version: 1.1.62.158 Public

I'm not sure if the problem is really the link. Look's more like an incompatibility due the Hardware Encoder from my RX 5700 XT and the Decoder from the Pi.

Also on 1080p on an other Monitor I have with HEVC the exact same problems. The Screen is distorted and the Steam Link Overlay is flickering (Info Details, Bandwith, etc.)

It's all up to date. I cannot update Steam Link App without those commands.

I have installed the latest image from Raspberry Pi Imager 1.2 (Raspbian on recommended settings) after this i have updated all and installed Steam Link.

Again without HEVC it work's flawlessly (but for sure only 1080p)

I have tested the Android App of Steam Link - there are no issues with enabled HEVC @4k streams. (But it feels a little bit slow at all - the decoder in my tv is not the best)
Streaming to a another PC work's also very good.

If i disabled hardware Encoding on Host then the stream works on Pi4.

The Steam Link for Pi4 does not work with AMD Hardware Encoding - that's really bad.

I have the same graphics card with Ryzen 7 3700X and 1440p 144Hz monitor. The result was the same: some flicker and the just top left corner is streamed. I bet this is related to AMD encoding.

I tested the encoding from my AMD GPU to an another PC with an GTX 970 (HEVC) enabled.
Work's!
That mean's there must be any problem in Steamlink software.
As workaround you can use Software Encoding (very slow at my Rig) or use HEVC but then only until 1080p. (I think then h.264 will be used)
It would be cool if anyone can report this situation to Valve.

I tried it Yesterday but currently we are out of luck. Hopefully we see an Steam Link update.

If you update the raspberry pi4 kernel to 5.4 you will get the HEVC working without any problem.

Follow this link on how to update your kernel: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=269769

Nope..
it's not working.Unlikely it's the same as with Old-Kernel.
There must be any issue in Steam Link Encoding the HEVC Stream from AMD Hardware or with Steam Client HEVC Decoding in Raspberry.

By upgrading the kernel I was able to use HEVC successfully (was previously having the issue OP mentioned) - FAR less latency, and FPS games are now playable. Thanks!
