Steam Link app on nvidia shield extremely delayed
Streaming stats look fine on the host side, but huge display delay, ranging from 30 to 100s of ms. Same from two different hosts, one with an nvidia GPU, and one with AMD.

I think it is recommended to stream via Moonlight when using nvidia shield, have you given that a go?

That doesn't solve the issue with my AMD machine.

You may look around for which codecs are being used and see if you can swap them. I'm reaching the end of my knowledge base on this problem but I know AMD and Nvidia work better at different tasks. It may also be an issue of the actual connection on the hosts instead of gpu. Perhaps the AMD machine has a worse network card?

GL, cheers

The nvidia machine has a GTX 680, the AMD machine has a 6900 XT. Both are using x264/AVC. The problem occurs when using both software and hardware encoding. Oddly the setting to use HEVC doesn't work and the AMD host reverts to x264. Both host work with no issue using different Steam Link clients. Both the steam link hardware, and the android app on a Galaxy S21, work flawlessly. This seems to be very specifically an issue with the decode/display on the shield.

Beyond Nvidia intentionally crippling AMD compatibility, you might try asking on a shield forum

Yeah, I've done so, but their forums are a usability disaster so I was kind of hoping to avoid it. :D

I have to restart my Android based clients to get things snappy. Be sure to start with the basics like that. I've also seen display delays happen due to certain driver releases. I stick to the NV Studio releases. I'm currently on 511.65 with no issues.
