Slow decode on fire tv stick 4k
Steam link worked fine on my normal fire stick, but now that I've switched to the fire stick 4k, whenever I start streaming, games and the steam dashboard are very stuttery and have terrible input lag. My device is connected to my network with ethernet, using an adapter, so that's not the issue, nothing else changed. Hevc on or off doesn't make a difference, it still shows h.264 in the advanced statistics. anyone had the same experience?

Same problems for me, Fire Stick 4k - terrible performance, which is ridiculous because it can handle 4k blueray with bitrate spiking at 160 megabits on 5GHz network. Sadly, no workaround for half a year. Tried AMD Link as alternative, it works, but it is not gamepad-friendly in my case (it just don't work).

Yeah, steam link has special drivers for usb gamepads, my xbox 360 controller won't work anywere else other than there.I'm also using linux, so amd link isn't an option for me.

Have you tried switching to HEVC/x265? The decoder for it might be faster on the fire stick.

I mentionned that I did try and that it didn't make a difference. Either way, the app runned fine with either option on the fire tv stick gen 2 (non-4k) It seemed like very regular spikes, changing resolution and/or bitrate did nothing to help. I have to assume that it is a bug in the steam link software, there could be no other reason to explain this.
I can confirm, nothing works reliably with any settings host/client side. HW acceleration, AVC/HEVC, any bitrate/capture resolution, nothing works acceptably. Such a pity.
