Controller compatibility list
Hello all,

I know that Samsung already has their own list of officially supported controllers that are compatible with the Steam App, which are:

The Steam Controller
Xbox 360 Wireless/Wired
Xbox One Wired
Logitech F510 / F710

However, I was told that it's possible to get other controllers to work, since they aren't able to test every controller that exists. So I'd thought I'd compile a list here to show which controllers are compatible with the app, and which aren't. I'm hoping that others who own different controllers can help contribute to this list as well. My TV model is KU6290, 65-inch.

Works:
AmazonBasics Xbox One controller - Tested by myself. It's not an official first-party controller by Microsoft, but it is officially licensed, so Amazon stuck very closely with Microsoft's specs when making it, so much so that it gets recognized as a regular Xbox One controller. Great wired, cheaper alternative. The Xbox Accessories app tells me that the firmware is 1.1.279.2

Logitech F310 - Tested by myself. I figured that since the F510/F710 are listed as officially compatible controllers, chances are the F310 will work as well. Lo and behold, it does.

Xbox One wireless via 8BitDo receiver - Tested by HandSlander.

Dualshock 4 wireless via 8BitDo receiver - Tested by raFaun

JAMSWALL Wired USB Xbox 360 controller - Tested by myself. I got this off Amazon, and I was actually quite surprised that it worked, since it's a third-party knock-off. I guess the internals are identical enough to the 360 controller that the Steam app recognizes it as one. However, I wouldn't recommend this one, since it feels quite cheap in the hands. But it does work.

PowerA Enhanced Wired Controller for Xbox One - Tested by myself. This one's another officially licensed controller, so I'm guessing that they stuck very closely to the Microsoft spec. Funny thing is, Steam recognizes it as a Generic Gamepad, rather than an Xbox controller. The Xbox Accessories app tells me that the firmware is 1.1.279.2, which is the same as the AmazonBasics controller.

Doesn't Work:
Gamesir G3W wired PC controller (interestingly enough, the TV does detect input from this controller, but it just jumps all over the place, making it totally unusable)

PowerA Xbox One Wired USB Controller - tested by HandSlander. This is interesting, since it's also an officially licensed controller like the AmazonBasics one.

ZD T Gaming Wired Gamepad - Tested by myself. Same issue as the Gamesir, it just jumps all over, making it unusable.

Xbox One S via bluetooth - tested by HandSlander. Is responsive, but not all buttons work and is temperamental. Works fine with 8bitdo receiver.

PDP Rock Candy Wired Xbox 360 controller - tested by myself. Funnily enough, it works on the menu portion when selecting a PC to connect to and the Steam Link settings, but once you open Steam Big Picture mode, it becomes non-responsive. I was surprised that this one didn't work, since it's officially licensed by Microsoft, while the knock-off JAMSWALL one worked.

PDP Wired Controller for Xbox One - Tested by myself. This one doesn't work at all. No input detected whatsoever. The Xbox Accessories app tells me that the firmware is 1.0.62.0

I think I'm done with my testing, I'll leave the rest to everyone else. I hope that those of you who have other controllers can also test them and report your results, so that other people with Samsung smart TVs can find this resource useful.

I've tried the Xbox One S controller using Bluetooth connection on my Samsung QLED Q7FN and it worked flawlessly. The controller was even able to control navigation on the tv menu.

It has been a while since I tested it with the Steam Link. Maybe there was a firmware or SL app update. I'll try again.
make sure to test all buttons as it used to work only for main buttons but bumpers were dead
Thanks Tom, that's usefull.

The grey 8bitdo controller works as well in the same scenatrion and it's cheaper from the Sony's adapter, this may come usefull for some.

I got a Samsung QE49Q7F which does not support Bluetooth controllers, only keyboards. I plugged in a DS4 wireless usb adapter from Sony and my DS4 controller works perfect on the Steam app.
Pairing is easy; just press on the usb adapter to get in in pairing mode. Put the controller in pairing mode and that's it.
I've been trying to connect my Dualshock 3 controller to my Samsung smart TV but I can't get it to work, does any one know how to do this or if it's even possible?
I'm not sure whether this has been answered or not but I have a Samsung NU8000, and I've been able to connect an Xbox One controller to it via Bluetooth, but it has the same issues others have had where it's temperamental, and sometimes needs to be repaired to work right at all. I bought an 8BitDo receiver, downloaded the latest firmware, and paired it with my controller. However on both my PC and TV using the Steamlink App, I'm having issues. As far as the Steamlink app on my TV goes, the TV recognizes that there's a controller and I can parse through the menus, but when the steam link app loads up it doesn't recognize that there's any controller input. Anyone have any familiarity with this?

Gamepad Xbox One (3 revision) connect without controller, vibration not working.
So I'm looking to get an 8bitdo dongle for my wireless Xbone One controller to use with my Samsung TV's Steam Link app. Has anyone experienced any issues with this setup? Does the rumble work?
8bitdo setup is OK not perfect but is an acceptable workaround without too much FAFF
Gamesir G3s just works out the box.

Recognised as an unidentified Xbox 360 controller.

You pair as if using a PC ie using 2.4Ghz wireless mode (not bluetooth mode).

Have only tried one controller so far.

The only thing I note so far that does not work is the re-mapping buttons function.

Ok I will tell you my testing.

With Xbox one S BT controller I must pair gamepad always when I start TV (if you dont turn off TV you dont need to pair again). If you dont do this, some buttons run wrong.

Gamepad Xiaomi BT, same as Xbox, always need to be paired when you turn on TV, if not is not recognized.

I can use both of them at same time. (I tested 2 xiaomi gamepad BT too and runs flawless)

Samsung TV NU8075

I have some questions:

Is there one wireless Gamepad that dont need this instruccions to run fine?

There are new steamlink APP for samsunt TV, but I dont see version released on forums, dont see changes, dont see if they are working on BT support for gamepads etc....

Is this the best forum with information for steamlink on samsung TV?

Thanks in advance.

The Samsung TV says its paired. I don't know if it should say "Paired" or "Connected", but it says "Paired". And the gamepad is already updated.

I can not use it as TV controller, so it is paired but is not being used. I don't know if I must do something more.

Thanks.

Turn on TV (your gamepad OFF)
Go to settings - external controler....- List bluetooth devices
delete gamepad
Turn on your gamepad, and put it on link mode
Press on TV menu, look for new BT controller
Paired with that gamepad (light must NOT blink), if fail, delete again and press look for another BT device..... until light dont blink in your gamepad.

Now this gamepad will be ok, and runs smooth all buttons. You can play steamlink fine.

Everytime you turn off TV, must do all steps again.

Is there no a way to do it just one time? T_T
Thanks, I will try when I arrive home.

Maybe with the 8bitdo dongle?
I have the same problem
