Steam Link

Steam Link

Exceedingly high CPU use since patch even just idling in SteamVR
My system seems beefy enough:
I have a quest 3 and my laptop is as follows:
Asus G14 (2023) w/ AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS and mobile 4090, 32G Ram, Windows 11
Yes, as soon as I bought it I tuned the heat settings as all Asus G14 users kind of need to. :)

As of 2/7/24, as soon as I enter SteamVR, even before starting a game, CPU temps start to spike to 96C, even though task manager implies this seems unnecessary. GPU temps are fine. As a result games that worked well last week such as synth riders are now unplayable because they are now stuttering and awful.

Is anyone else seeing this? I just bought the Quest 3 so I just was able to refund all my new games (thankfully only beat saber and synth riders were over 2 hrs) until I can figure this out. I REALLY don't want to use the Meta store and be trapped in their ecosystem but since the games I have natively seem just fine, my first assumption here is that something got broke in the latest STEAMVR update. Any observations or opinions would be welcome.

Oh... if it matters, using wired connection to the cablemodem and Wifi 6E with the Quest 3

Yup, same problem here!

No problem with Oculus link app.

7800x3d
32gb ram
4080super

CPU TEMP:
OCULUS LINK: 57-61C while playing
STEAM LINK: 72-85C while playing

GPU TEMP is around 65-70 with both link systems.

My temperatures don't change, but performance overhead in Steam Link is horrible as of SteamVR 2.5's release in May for me, uses 50%+ of my i5-8400 idling in the empty void, vs 8 - 15% in oculus link

yep issue here. Using steamlink turns mine up to 80c to 85c
If I use Virtual desktop I get around 60c to 72c
7800x3d
64gb ram
RTX3090

try closing any chromium based browsers and steam and see if that helps

did you ever fix this?

experiencing the same thing. Temps in Virtual Desktop and otherwise are fine. If i use steam link.. cpu goes crazy.
I just worked out that enableing the debug menu for steam vr takes my steam vr from taking up 40% of my cput to about 5-10%
