In SteamVR settings, on the audio tab, you can disable device switching by selecting system default instead of the HMD. I hope that helps!

i did try that but the headset loses the audio transmission for some reason if it is set up on anything else than the "Headset" setting, i don't know if it happens with voicemeeter/virtual cables only but i think that should be something to look at. pretty please valve.

Can you explain your voicemeeter setup? You could also try mirroring audio to the steam streaming speakers on that same audio settings page.

I use voicemeeter banana

hardware input 1 : ASIO device (my mic from my interface)
hardware input 2 : Microphone (Steam Streaming Microphone) (Using WDM)
Both of these send sound output to Voicemeeter virtual output VAIO

Hardware OUTS:
A1: My ASIO interface
A2: Steam Streaming Speakers (MME)
A3: My Speakers (WDM) [not really relevant here]

Virtual Inputs:
Voicemeeter input VAIO (Main Audio) gets sent to hardware outputs A1, A2, A3 and Virtual output B1
Voicemeeter input AUX VAIO (Spotify) gets sent to hardware outputs A1, A2, A3 and Virtual output B2
