Steam Link

Extremely weird mic issue in discord, but not the webapp
First, since this seems like the issue could be caused on either end, I've also made a post about this on the relevant discord forum. You can see that here: https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/20112200326551-Weird-mic-audio-issues-when-using-the-steam-vr-link-app-but-only-on-the-discord-desktop-app-Webapp-is-fine

I don't know much about audio, so I don't know how to describe the issue I'm having, so just take a look at this recording i made where I tested a bunch of different recording methods, and the different noise suppression options {LINK REMOVED} (WAV and .aup3 audacity file in a zip)

During the part that's chopping out, I'm testing the Krisp, Standard, and None noise cancellation options in that order.

Here [i.imgur.com] are my voice options. I lowered the input sensitivity to the lowest value for testing, but even at a normal level and on voice activity it's the same.

If I had to guess (and boy howdy is this a guess), there's some noise suppression happening somewhere in the chain, even when i have noise suppression disabled. During the part where i try to just hold a consistent tone, it cuts out until i change the tone. So that's probably a good lead.

I really hope there's an easy fix for this that can be done, or if it is a bug the developers can get it fixed once they're back from holiday. I utterly despise using the oculus link app and this is the only thing keeping me there, because it works flawlessly on there.

Oh well the automod removing links to files makes sense, but that makes it kind of hard to actually show what the issue is. If a manual moderator could review the url in there that would be great, but i'm pretty sure everyone's on holiday right now.

In the meantime, it looks like the discord automod didnt remove the link. So you can head to the post i made on the discord forum, and download the audio there

Odd, I tried un-auto-removing-the-link but it autoremoves even for me! I was able to retrieve a link to it though. Thank you for uploading it.

There is no noise cancellation happening on our side that I'm aware of. I've tried recording and playing back many times and in many configurations.

In the beginning when you say "With the same settings as last time" do you mean Discord is targeting loopback or Discord is targeting the "Steam Streaming Mic" or does it target loopback?

One thing I am wondering is if somehow Discord is trying to record in some way that incurs buffer drops that trigger it to auto-mute.

The only thing I have so far you can try is to, once streaming, try manually changing the sample rate and seeing if it has any impact. You can go into sound settings, go under "Steam Streaming Microphone", device properties -> additional device properties -> advanced -> default format. It should be 2 channel 32-bit, 48000 Hz. But I am curious what happens if you try overriding it to something else.

I don't have any firm recommendations here yet, but I've sent out feelers.

"with the same settings as last time" was again capturing the discord mic test audio, by selecting the output device in audacity under loopback

i made sure the audio device was set to what you recommended, and then tried pressing the windows return to default settings button, and recorded tests for both here (lets see if the automod likes google drive instead of mediafire lol): https://drive.google.com/file/d/15JGPvLZQEsfndfhWcRzLWW9k7L93AtG4/view?usp=sharing

even if i manually change the audio device settings, when i disconnect my headset and then connect again it's back to the "correct" one you recommended.

I'm using a quest 2 if that somehow changes anything compared to quest 3 or pro, but this whole thing is very strange. I'm actually trying to sell my quest 2 to get a quest 3, so i can test if it still happens then
dead thread, I know but I'm having the same issue on a Quest 3.
VRChat reads my mic just find with no issues but when I try to use it with discord it cuts out very frequently.

Did you find a solution? I thought about trying to route it through VoiceMeeter but I haven't tried that yet

sorry, it just kinda stopped being an issue one day so i don't have any advice on how to fix it
