Steam Link Does Nothing after Connecting
As the title says. I'm using Meta Quest 3 and connecting to my PC succesfully. On the PC side the SteamVR launches but on the Quest side nothing happens and I keep seeing the quest dashboard.

My setup is all fine, got my PC connected over ethernet and the headset over WiFi 6. My PC specs are way above recommended as well.

I had a similar problem. Steam Link would just go back to the oculus menu like it crashed. Same issue with both of my PCs but worked fine on my quest 2. I logged out, logged in as the device owner on the Q3, paired and started it. Worked fine. Logged out, logged in as my user, works fine now.

Not sure if it’ll work for you but that’s what fixed it for me.

Please try the troubleshooting steps under "If you cannot connect make sure" here:
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0E2C-406B-9135-38A4

Including one that seems to be a common issue on the forum being to verify that "Remote Play" is enabled in your Steam settings.

Hi, I tried all the troubleshooting steps but it still doesn't work. Remote Play is enabled and I successfully paired my Quest 3 it just doesn't connect with SteamVR for some reason despite launching it.

Same problem.
I can see Quest 2 as paired device in Remote play.
After "connect", I can see notification on my desktop about Q2 connected.
Tried to reinstall Link inside helmet - no luck
I have 2 routers, which one in repeater mode. Tried to turn off second one for direct connect - also no luck
Can my friends join to me via remote play in 2d games? - Yes

THIS WORKED FOR ME, The account you use steam link on has to say its the device owner for it to work

Somewhat of an oversight so definitely needs a fix but this works. I installed the Steam Link app on the device owner profile and connected from there and it worked. Switching the account and using the Steam Link app works then as well.

We've made some changes to improve the stability of initial connection to Steam Link in the most recent beta update for SteamVR, please give it a shot and see if it resolves your guys issues: https://steamcommunity.com/games/250820/announcements/detail/3860211948182440551

Well, I got a little bit farther... I made sure to be in the beta in steam as well as on Oculus. One of the times I tried it, I actually saw the SteamVR grid and night-scape, but then it booted me back to Oculus Quest. If I turned on passthrough mode, I noticed every time I tried going through, where before Oculus would crash, now all of Steam is crashing and restarting itself. I'm not sure where or how to create a system report since the VR app crashes alongside Steam

@bramnet, can you try opening SteamVR on your host pc before connecting and see if that makes any difference? Also, if not, can you open a ticket with support, and upload the logs (And any recent minidumps from your Steam minidumps folder) and post the ticket ID here, and we can discuss there after support triages.

Placed ticket HT-K7NQ-TF62-6QBK. Launching SteamVR first appeared to be a bit more promising as Steam didn't crash upon connection, but it still didn't appear in the Quest. When I stopped trying and closed SteamVR though, all of Steam suddenly crashed and appeared to reload. Hoping this info will help you and the rest of Valve with figuring this out.

Stopped working for me today, same issue with it crashing when connecting to the host PC. No luck with the beta or opening SteamVR first, even tried a full factory reset on my Quest 2. Steam Link appears to be completely broken for a lot of people.

In general, steam closing and reopening is not crashing, it's just the way that Steam switches modes, though it appears that may not be the case for you.

Thank you for opening the ticket, we will continue to correspond there. If in the mean time you are able to resolve your issue, please post about it here!

@EyhSteve, can you open a ticket with support?

We should have fixed this in the latest update to Steam Link, can you try updating the app and reporting back if it works for you?
Thanks.

Lmao, I reported your post by mistake thinking it was a response with quote Danwillm. Ugh.

OK. So I tried unistalling and reinstalling steam link on both the quest and PC, with restarts in between fresh installations as recently as last night. No success. I have enabled steamVR beta as well. And even separated my wifi spectrums just to try.

I have seen others on reddit claiming success after factory resetting their quest. Obviously I'm trying everything to avoid this.

If I had to guess, the quest isn't removing ALL the files of steamlink, and the ones they leave behind are corrupt.

Again, this was working flawlessly as recently as last week. It wasn't until an update two days ago that occurred did this problem begin.

I think it's imperative to note, it seemed as if it was updating my quest firmware/software WHILE PLAYING ON STEAMLINK. My pro controllers dropping repeatedly and frequent system hangs led me to shut down and restart the quest only to find it wouldn't shut down do to an update...which took forever to complete for some reason. I'm suspicious if during this, files became corrupt

I should also note steamlink always has my connection as "slow". My PC is hardwired two feet from the router and I use the quest only a few feet from the Asus AC router. What exactly is designating this a "slow" connection? I connect at over 1300mbps with my other PC a good 30' away, I assume I'm maxing the quest capabilities, but is still says slow even when not connected which leads me to believe the "slow connection " has to do with the PC side...which again is hardwired.
