The new Steam Link on Quest badly needs Steam Deck support
As the title says, I'd love to be able to use the new Steam Link app on Quest for connecting to my Steam Deck, just to be able to use a virtual screen in the headset as a giant screen.

Since Virtual Desktop isn't going to support this anytime soon, Valve now having their own direct streaming software for Steam, this really needs to happen!

If anyone is wondering: I tried. And my Deck wouldn't show up, neither in normal SteamOS mode nor in Desktop mode. Not wanting to have to install Windows just for that use case, and I could then use Virtual Desktop anyways.

Ostensibly you just have to install steamvr on the deck and hope that it is powerful enough to power the game theater experience and the 2d game itself. It hope it can, but I doubt it, and can say I haven't had tremendous luck streaming just a 2d game from the Deck.

Failing that, you'd have to wait for the Steam Link Quest app to be updated to include the theater experience shell which would run on the headset while it streams the 2d game from your machine.

That's more technically involved and is a different bread of cat than what Steam Link is, which is a direct connection to your steam machine...which has to be reasonably faster than a steam deck, and also plugged into a router, etc.

It's more resource efficient at least at this very second, for valve to just have users move or install their games onto a desktop running steamvr.

I wish they implement this one in SD as well.

+1 would be a simple and great feature for valve to add, with obvious performance improvements and graphical fixes to support the steam decks power

+1, although the deck isn’t meant for VR (said by Greg coomer), it definitely can handle most games

++++100 I don't care if it's a little laggy, it'll still be a better experience than streaming to my garbage pc
was working with a VR streamer recently (xorosegold) and she determined that if you sideload the android version of the steam link app, instead of using the official meta steam link app, you could connect to the steam deck and control the desktop. SteamVR wouldn't recognize the headset though, so testing VR games didn't go well... but as far as moving the mouse and controlling the desktop, it worked just fine.

You can get the android app from apk mirror and I believe she used Sidequest to sideload the app onto the quest headset.

I got a Steam Deck because it was a relatively affordable option for another gaming computer and as an alternative to using my Apple computer. I appreciate the larger library of games to play, but I wanted to expand it further into the VR games as well and recently got a Quest 3. If the reason for no VR support on the Deck is because of the hardware requirements, I understand, but since there is no means of upgrading a Deck besides HD space, I would appreciate if they would at least release a peripheral or something that could improve the performance of the Deck at least while it's docked and hopefully make it capable of supporting VR.
