I am running SteamVR 2.1.8 and when I connect to my PC I can see it, click connect, and then it just sits there spinning forever 'connecting to host PC' but never connects.
- I have Remote Play enabled
- Using a Quest 2
- Quest and PC is on the same WiFi
- Using 5ghz which gets a solid 1200mb/s connection via Virtual Desktop.
Let me know if you need logs (and where to find the logs)
[21-12-23 Edit]
I found my issues.
It seems Steam Remote Play has issues with the Tailscale client or Tailscale isolated network I run. Pretty much everything else I use on the internet does not touch my Tailscale network, including Air Link and Virtual Desktop, so that is interesting.
Maybe a clash of ports or addresses?
I had to disconnect my Tailscale network and then restart Steam to get it working.
On the Quest 2 side it says "Connecting to host PC is taking longer than usual" infinitely, and on the PC side it says "Awaiting wireless headset" in the SteamVR window.
Tx is shorthand for Transmit in wireless networking, so it sounds like there's a transmission failure? But I'm not sure what would cause it, or what other logs to look at. I opened a support ticket on the matter.
Do you have another device (iPad/iPhone/Android/Apple TV/Mac/PC) you can test Steam Link with? If those can find it, it's down to VR Link. If those can't then it's an issue with remote play entirely.
Steam Link for Meta Quest is an extension of the Steam Link system itself, used for remote play. So it needs to be working first for VR Link to work.
Seeing this set off alarm bells in my head, as I also use Tailscale. I got some help from some friends and found out that the "Use Tailscale subnets" option on the client was causing the issue. I'm not sure why I had it on myself as my PC is already on my subnet. Check to see if that's your issue. 😅
