Steam Link

Here's a router I highly recommend...
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-Archer-C5-Wireless-Gigabit/dp/B00JZFG6QS

$80 dual band router with the 5GHz you want for streaming to the Link (or any Steam machine). It's way cheaper than a lot of the Asus routers you can find with pretty much the same performance.

Thanks for the recommendation, was about to ask this question.

Will the C7 and up models offer better performance with streaming than the C5 or is it basically overkill after that?

I feel like the C7 and up would be overkill. The signal strength doesn't appear to be stronger or anything, just the max transfer rates go up. The C5 is total overkill for Steam in-home streaming so I think this is the best value for your money.

Every cheap Router should handle this. What u need to stream 1080p ? About 5 MBit or? I dont think u will notice any difference with a high class router.

lol, router.... plebes. Running a cisco 3750 gigibit layer 3 switch as my core. pfSense firewall running on my old Corei3 hardware. Ubiquity wireless with wireless controller.

Have fun streaming on your $80 "router"

And if you have the cassette volume too low or too high you have too start it all over for other 10-20 minutes loading the cassette

This is hilarious. Look at these kids trying to look cool. Also I'd like to recommend you go check out reddit.com/r/iamverysmart You could rack up some serious karma self posting there.

I linked a cheapish router that is waaay more than sufficient for in-home streaming (I know because I've used it for that at max quality settings.)

Someone linked a router that was almost double the price.. why? This router has higher max transfer rate than Steam Link can possibly use.

This might be true if you don't have a lot of other wireless traffic and you have a short distance between devices. I had a "cheap" router that couldn't handle Steam in-home streaming before.

Bunch of idiots in this thread trying way too hard.

Hey you got ripped off. The newer T-LINK Archer routers are better and cheaper. That being said, all of them are OVERKILL for Steam in-home streaming.

I knew there'd be morons coming in here thinking it's a ♥♥♥♥ measuring contest. I could have bought a $300 router so I can swing my ♥♥♥♥ around screaming about how much money I have. Instead I bought a router that performs like a $300 router but for $80 and is overkill for steam in-home streaming.

Other people are going to want a less expensive router so they can use the Steam Link. This is an extremely good value router.
