Steam Link

Steam Link

Possible to play on TV?
I just found out steam link app is no longer supported on samsung TVs and have no idea about companies. Is the only way to use steam link device which is no longer sold?

If the TV manufacturer doesn't provide an app for their platform (the TV), then yeah you'll need to connect something to the TV. The usual options are:
  1. Hardware Steam Link (if you can find one)
  2. Build an HTPC and use that (Raspberry Pi, etc.)
  3. Install the Steam Link app on your phone and connect it to the TV, either with a wired HDMI adapter or by "casting" over your local network
  4. If you're pretty technical, you can use an HTPC with Moonlight/Sunshine and bypass Steam on the client end altogether (obviously the host will still be running Steam to launch the games, but Steam won't be involved in the network streaming part)
Personally my recommendation would be #2, but it comes down to what's practical for your situation.

Steam Link app requires the maker to adapt Link to their equipment. They know best how to do it.

or get an android tv

but eventually all 'smart' tvs apps will get outdated and be obsolete

better off getting a pi or htpc or use an old laptop to stream to the tv

Thanks for this amazing detailed answer and thanks to others as well.

Looks like I will simply connect to the tv via Steam Deck on a dock and stream through there and if I will be unhappy then I will go with #2. Now I just need to figure out which TV is better for streaming lol
