What's the point of steam link? Useless

I left my steam deck plugged in and turned on at home, and went to work.
At work, I tried to stream a game from the deck at home, and it's asking me to enter authorization code 9021 into my steam deck.
Well, I'm not home! I'm at work right now.
So what am I supposed to do? What's the point of setting up steam link if I have to go back and forth between two physical devices?
Any way around this? I don't need authorization.

You only have to do it once. shoulda set it up before leaving home.

You have to go through the authorization process 'cause the Steam Link software has to verify that you're a valid user. This probably means doing one of the following:

• Bring the Steam Deck to work, so you can enter the code after connecting from your work computer
  
• Bring your work computer (laptop?) home, and pair it there
  
• Have someone else at home enter the code for you, or leave the Steam Deck with someone who can do it
  
• Run a different remote access service (VNC, Sunshine, etc.) on the Steam Deck via desktop mode and use that to pull up the local display to enter the code (wouldn't recommend that unless you're already comfortable using desktop mode).

its called doing your prep work and testing before trying somewhere else

you need to pair link device/app before using it

if the link/app is asking for a code, thats the security pin set on host
steam -> settings -> remote play -> [set security pin]

to pair a remote pc, the link app will give a pairing code. use on phone to access the host and enter the pairing code
steam -> setting -> remote play -> [pair steam link]
