Does Steam Link ignore what display format (4:3 or 16:9) i use on my desktop?

I sure hope it does, because right now I have the problem, that i still use a 17" TFT with 4:3 format (1280x1024 native res) and whenever i connect it (via HDMI cable) to my 16:9 Full-HD TV, i cannot get the picture from 4:3 to 16:9, other then squeezing or zooming it. Changing my desktop resolution to a 16:9 resolution is also not possible.

Will Steam Link ignore what format/resolution is set on my desktop PC and show me 16:9 fullscreen anyway ?

Most likely not, you'll get black bars on the sides of your 16:9 TV displaying 4:3 content.

Why can't you change the resolution on your PC? I have 16:10 monitors and never have any problem setting the resolution to a 16:9 ratio for streaming to my TV, either in-game or through Windows' screen settings. You'd have the black bars on the top and bottom of your monitor when going 16:9, but it should be able to do 1280x720 still.
