Steam Link

Steam Link

Does Steam Link support 4K and 120fps?
Does Steam Link support 4K and 120fps? (If you stream from your PC connected to 4K Monitor to Steam Link connected to 4K TV) or (If you stream from your PC connected to 144Hz Monitor to Steam Link connected to 120Hz TV downscale to 120fps).

I heard Steam Link only support 1080p and 60fps. But, I'm not 100% sure if this is true or not. We all know Steam Link is a Streaming Device allow you to stream Steam Games from your PC, Mac, or Linux to Steam Link with SteamOS install.

If Steam Link does not support 4K or 120fps. Then buying 4K TV or 120Hz TV was a waste of money!

Read the store page. If that doesn't answer your question (it will), read the FAQ. To pre-emptively answer the possible, "why not just tell me?," I'll say this: I'm helping you to help yourself. The information is right in front of you, and you don't need spoon-feeding.

But seriously though, WTF kind of rig do you have that you're getting 120fps @ 4K? 980 ti's are barely pushing 30-40fps and that's better than even Titan X. You'd have to be at the very least quad-SLI 980 tis or Titan Xs to even get close to 120fps @ 4K.

Methinks your 4K 120Hz TV was a waste of money, not because of streaming or video games, but just because. Early adopters always, no exceptions, always get shafted on price. 4K content is barely a blip on the radar compared to 1080p, and I'd say practically non-existant at 120fps/Hz. You've paid a ton of money for something you won't even get to utilize for quite some time to come, 2 years at best.

Having a 120Hz TV doesn't mean you'll be able to take a 120fps signal from an outside device. In fact, most TV's top out at 60Hz and your 4K signals tend to top out at 30Hz. The purpose behind the 120Hz and higher TVs is to increase the refresh rate (mostly for 3D and frame blending) and make it consistent with both TV and film standard framerates (24 doesn't fit evenly into 60, but does in 120).

Also, what model TV do you have?

Ugh, god... frame blending. I forgot about that crap. Single worst "innovation" in TVs in the last 5-10 years.

Lol, outputting 4K 120hz on a tv XD
I'll stick with 480p on my Wii 😏

He's been given serious answers. No, the Steam Link will not support 4K at 120fps. It says right on the store page: "1080p resolution at 60 FPS." You shouldn't expect any more than that. Any follow up was to point out that even if he bought a 4K TV, there is no way for the Steam Link to output a 4K 120fps signal to it. TV refresh is not the same as frame rate and just because a TV has a higher refresh doesn't mean it also supports higher frame rates. As I said, most TV's top out at 30fps on their 4K signals, no matter the source. If he bought a TV that's 120Hz, I can guarantee you it doesn't support 120fps in 4K and it's doubtful it will support more than 60fps in 1080p, even. Not that it matters, the direct answer to his question is right on the store page, the Steam Link supports neither 120fps nor 4k output.

isu-kun - yes and no ;)

I see that stem link will not support this by default. But there is fast method to have access via ssh to steam link and change some setting.

Now im testing what can i hange :D Probabbly this can be done - there is setting to change bitrate for stream -> ind if i can change this -> maybe it go with bigger resolution.

I don't think you're understanding what's being said, here. This isn't a limitation imposed on the computer end. The hardware interfacing with the TV is incapable of putting out a 120fps 4k signal to the TV. The best you could get would be 60fps with an HDMI 2.0 connection, but while the Steam Link comes with a 2.0 cable, the device itself only has a 1.4 port. If there was some way to finagle a 4k resolution with the feed, you'd still be limited to, at best, 30fps. So even if you want to talk theoretical, the answer is still a solid "no." It is impossible to output a 120fps 4k signal to your TV with the Steam Link.

Let me also jump in on this and add more....

What more do you want from a product that cost a staggering 50$. Nothing and I do mean nothing AT ALL for 50 dollars other then the steam link can even stream games! I'm actually surprised the steam link isn't more expensive because it is able to stream games at 1080p 60fps with almost 0 input lag. If 4K 120hz is what your aiming for this product is not for you.

^I hope this didn't come off to mean 😅

isu-kun -> 50fps. Tested. But you can use 4k (not as stem link) if you run moonligh and strem from GForce, not from steam it is possible to have 4k and 50fps. Thats max you can have.
Now it's stable, and link encode this stream witthout problems. :]

focusblade -> no, thjats not true. You can use for this also rapery pi. Is cheaper (but it doesent have that nice body).

a 4k TV and 120Hz is fine.
My TV is that.
However, it's 1080p at true 120Hz.
And with 4k @ 60Hz.

Most TVs are 30Hz at 4k.
And 60Hz at 1080p (Their fake Hz at 120)

Might as well connect your PC or laptop to the actual TV to display the real 1080p @120Hz
Or 4k at 60Hz.

Can the steam link cook my breakfast and fold my pants?
