Steam link keeps disconnecting from network! Help!

After connecting to my host pc, I am able to connect for about 5 seconds, then the connection drops. Then the Steam link shows my PC as offline, and unable to be connected to. Both my host pc and the link are running a wired connection. How can I fix this?

I'm having the exact same issue too. I have a pretty decent pc too as well as connection so I don't know what the problem is. If I find anything out I'll be sure to post it for you.

I'm also having the same issue, although my controller connects for about 30 seconds or so. This is quite frustrating...

I've had this happen but usually after a game crashed that I was trying to stream - maybe something is killing the streaming service - have you looked at the streaming logs?

I've reviewed it but can't necessarily make out what it says -- I do see that there are messages showing that it receives a specific video sequence that are different than expected, thus a lost data disconnect.

For example -- "CLIENT: Got video sequence 4178, expected 4153, sending lost data notification"

Does steam exit on the host machine? This was my problem initially -- steam would just silently crash/exit/something on the host and the machine would appear 'offline'. Updating to the steam client beta helped. This still happens, but not nearly so often.

If this isn't the case, possibly try running a ping from the host to link... see if there's packet loss?

This is a new issue for me as well, after I changed my network configuration in an attempt to optimize performance.

Initially, I had my computer (WIndows 7) and the Steam Link wirelessly connected to the home router (Actiontec C1000A). This setup was easy to do, and the results were pretty decent from a streaming perspective, only experienceing occasional stuttering and bouts of lower quality.

This issue started happening when I intalled a powerline adapter with a switch and ran cable from both devices into it, with the other end of the powerline adapter connected to the router.

I can get the computer to show up in the Steam Link (as well as two Windows machines) long enought to start streaming from it and get to Rocket League's title screen before the stream dies and the Link loses connection entierly. The whole process can be restarted after power cycling the Steam Link.


All this said, I'd be interested to hear about how everyone has their Links setup since, as is my case, the problem came up after I changed mine.


EDIT: Just a passive observation: my Link is recieving an IP address (and subnet mask) that's wildly outside of the normal rang for my network. This is strange to me since my computer (which is plugged into the same PL adapter as the link) gets an IP in the normal ranges for my network.

Same thing here. The annoying thing that it was working perfectly for the last 3 days, now I can't get it to work more than 30 seconds.

The only thing I changed was the network settings: I tried to set it to prioritize and messed with the encoding (turned it off).

However I changed everything back to default and still cant connect. But the fact that it worked before to me implies there is something in those settings that messed it up.

I have also been suffering from this issue. My Steam Link connects rather flakily at best, and when it does, it's only connected for about 5-45 seconds.

Presently it's connected wirelessly, which had never been an issue in the past, but after rebooting my router, my pc, and my Steam Link (and checking for updates for all 3), I'm afraid I'm no closer to a resolution than when I began. The only thing that's happened recently is my Steam controller performed a firmware update, but I can't see how that could be connected to the issue.

Has anyone had any luck with this? I'd be most grateful for any assistance that either Steam (or the community) could provide. Cheers! :)

I finally fixed the problem. Recently, I had purchased a wireless Blackweb keyboard to use with my Steam Link. That seems to have been the culprit, because as soon as I disconnected the USB dongle for it, my streaming is back to working perfectly. I hope this is helpful to everyone! :)

Interesting solution, but I have the issue even when I'm wired in. I wonder if it's a PC setting on the ethernet port?

OK so I was having the same problem and here4 is what did and did not work - Somewhat Solved Now.
1/ rebooted router No Fix
2/ rebooted windows - No Fix
3/ rebooted Steam Link - No Fix
4/ reset Steam Link to factory settings - No Fix
5/ Uninstalled a lot of new Microsoft Programs, Lavasoft and what I thought might be the culprit Nvidia Experience Program - SOLVED

Now if I can just get it to work lag free - arghhhhhh.

Same issue here on brand new steam link. Sometimes I can play for an hour and sometimes I can barely even open steam. Also I get a "slow convert" when trying to watch videos.

Same issue as most here. Plugged it in yesterday for the first time, worked for about an hour. Went to run an errand, came back, simply will not connect to pc. It says pic is ready, then you click on it, screen goes black, big picture mode starts on pc, 5-25 seconds later the steam link backs out and goes to the connect to a pic screen but tells me the pc is offline. Pc is still in other room running big picture mode.

Unbelievably frustrating. Hours spent opening ports on port forwarding on router, etc. resetting to factory settings on steam link, all that jazz. At least 20 restarts of everything, cable modem,router, steam link and Pc.

I wanted to chime in here to try to help people with this issue. Look up transmit and receive buffers on your PC's NIC card. Try maximizing both the transmit and receive buffers to their max settings. it is appearing that the buffers are getting overrun which is causing the disruption. I hope this info helps someone out there. Oh, also, disable any power saving settings on your nic card as well. Cheers !

Im having the same issue here as well. Wired connection works fine for about 30 secs then it disconnects saying Steam is offline when i know, on my computer its working. I have connect the steam link to the Ethernet cable port on my cable box but i know it works perfectly because it plays flawlessly in the time i can get it to work.

Im getting really frustrated at this point. Did all the troubleshooting and reconnecting. Did the factory reset and went to the beta build for hope. Im feeling like an idiot wasting $50 on this because my RIG is pretty high end and this should work.
