Steam Link

Steam Link

How do I improve my fps?
I'm playing Fallout 4 on the steam link and I can only get a max avg of 30fps, even though my PC is running it at 60 fps and 1080p (my computer is in the same room and I can see both).

I have it on a wired connection through my d-link dir-655, and my stream settings are on Beautiful. I also notice that while the screen is pretty busy I will get artifacts and quality degradation.

My host PC has an i5-760, on an AMD 7850 and 8 gb ram.

What do I need to do to increase the framerate and quality on the steam link?

Have you tried enabling hardware encoding in your host PC?
Try enabling that and the performance stats overlay in the Link to get a better idea of where the bottleneck is.

is hardware encoding enabled by default? I haven't changed any settings on the host pc.

Normally not. Go to the Steam menu->Preferences->In-Home Streaming->Advanced Host options.

Then enable the performance stats overlay in the Link (Settings->Streaming->Advanced Options).

When using the overlay you can expand it and see the name of the encoder and decoder Steam is using.

Just checked now, but hardware encoding is on and it still displays 30 fps. Is it possible that it's my router?

Heres my stats:
Decoder: marvell hardware decoding
Stream latency: 0.18ms input, 58ms display
Ping time: around .65 to .75ms
Inc bitrate: 850 kbit, video 1424kbit
Outgoing bitrate: 77kbit
Est bandwidth : 75mbps
Packet loss: 0%

@MxP83 Did you ever get your encoding to improve? Coincidentally, I also use a AMD 7850, and get about 30 fps encoding max on demanding games.

I got better by downscaling the graphics to 900p, and moved from beautiful to balanced. Not as great, but it runs 60fps
