What router are you using, what are the security settings on the router, and are you using the same SSID for 2.4 and 5GHz bands (if applicable)?
If you have already done that or can't, you might try to use a different SSID for your 5GHz band and connect to that with the Link. Forcing it to 5GHz instead of letting it try to determine what band to use may work better.
However that's a wireless N router so YMMV even if you get the connection. Once you get your long ethernet cable it will probably be fine though.
Router: Asus RT-AC3200
Steam Link has full connection bars. I also temporarily plugged it in to Ethernet to have it update. Going to System Update results in Steam Link reporting it is up to date.
Trying to connect over Wi-Fi results in the network status briefly changing to Connecting, then disappearing. I tried typing in the password, used WPS pin and WPS push button. Same result with every attempt.
1. Many Steam links are broken
2. There is some huge problem with Steam Link firmware, and it doesn't work with lots of popular routers.
Can steam support answer? I would like to know, if I have to wait for update or maybe I should return it?
The questions is, are they working to fix that and how long we have to wait? I see that its popular these days, to launch a product with lots of issues - I call this Beta4ever
I managed to get it working. Do a factory reset, plug it into wired, let it update and reboot. Try again. I had initially had it connected via wired and did an update before trying wifi the first time. Not sure why or how, but the network settings must have gotten messed up. For some reason, resetting it fixed it, at least for the moment. (also, note, on this attempt I did not remove the wired connection before trying wifi). Now steam, about the bill for my time?
Also curious if any of your other devices connected to your AC routers are also AC MIMO 2x2 devices and you are sure they are working in that mode. If the Link is the first such device on your network then you have not really tested your router in that mode and may not be able to conclude the router is indeed good in that mode.
Hope this helps.
