The setting which basically pulled me over to this controller was to set the right pad to trackball (for camera and mouse control) and enable gyroscope aiming for first person games. This beats every standard controller by miles. Once you are on trackball mode for the right pad and with gyro aim you get a movement fluidity for the camera and a precision in aiming you would never get with a standard stick.
The only genres where I can see the controller would not adapt to well is RTS (although some people have good results with a dual mouse config on the controller) and dpad heavy games like fighters.
I would take this controller any day over the xbox one pro controller. That it works really well with the Steam link is just an additional plus. Btw. my old xbox 360 controller now is retired.
When you first use the controller and link combo. You will be asked on the host computer to update the firmware on the controller. You have to actually plug the controll in at the host computer to do the update.
Hope this helps.
Using steamlink since Oct. 16, 2015. Two steam links; two steam controllers
First set from Valve Oct. 16
Second from Amazon Nov. 11
Sorry for sounding dumb, but I'm having an issue understanding the fix. Does the Link have to be running for me to update the firmware or is there a way to do it while it's not hooked up?
EDIT: Just tried the presumed course of action (Hooking up the Steam Link, plugging my controller in [to have it not work] and then take the controller back to the host pc, plug it in there, and attempt to update my firmware) only to find that I didn't appear to have a firmware update available. I'm honestly at a loss here, and I can't even refund this having bought it through Steam.
We've got the Xbox One third party controllers addressed and they've responded to me .
What you need to do is get the brand, the model information so they can purchase it and test it and get it fixed in the firmaware.
Here's the address you need to send the feedback too. If you dont send it here it wont get in teh firmware!

Be detailed please and make sure you include your information posted here OP.
OP you send this information to VALVE immediately so they can get those included in the firmware updates!
