This isn't something anyone can actually answer for you. Powerline adapters mostly depend on the house: quality of wiring, location of the outlets, and other physical things that are unrelated to the steam link.

IF you can get a stable consistent connection without major packet loss then the steam link would work just fine on a powerline adapter. But nobody here can tell you if the powerline adapter will work in YOUR home.

Just for a test, I tried a 500 Mbps powerline in my house with Steam Link and I was only getting 15 Mbps estimated bandwidth. The incoming stream was less. Outside of Link, a LAN speed test told me I was getting only 30 Mbps over powerline. I was surprised it was so low. I tried the LAN speed test at various locations in the house and got pretty much the same results. Fortunately, my house came wired for ethernet.

Your results will vary.

The estimated bandwidth meter is completely broken at the moment with hardware encoding enabled. It caps at 30mbps regardless of your connection.

In case of someone is wondering: The Steam Link only has a 100 MBit network interface, so you won't get more than 100 MBit over your 500 MBit powerline ;)

Even a 500mps Powerline doesn't give you 500mps per device.

Read the specs, it usually means you get a maximum of 100mps (if you're lucky) per device with a maximum of 500mps for all connected devices all together.

And yes, the performance of Powerlines heavily depends on your house and the way its wired, especially if the location of the two Powerline adapters are all on the same shared circuit.

Its highly recommended to purchase a Powerline from a local store in case you need to return it due to poor performance.

I heard that if your house is built decades ago you'll get better performance because houses back then uses thick copper wiring ratherr than the modern aluminum ones.

Has worked pretty much flawlessly for me using a Devolo 500 MBit powerline. Haven't looked at any stats though.

Noticed on day one it performed a lot better than my Wireless AC, which suffers from random (and game-breaking) ping spikes I haven't been able to squash.

I have a 500 MBit TP Link powerline adapters since our house is about 30 years old and my Steam Link has been working flawlessly with 60 fps at 1080p with all settings cranked on Portal 2 and any other game that I've thrown at it. Just to compare, I ran a long Ethernet cable to the Steam Link and did not notice any difference.

I tried to run the same games on both 2.4G and 5G wireless and found that Portal 2 was unplayable. As others have said, a 500 or 1200 Mbps adapter isn't going to make any difference when the steam link is limited to 100 Mbits anyway.

I bought a 500mb powerline adapter to see if i would get better results that my ac1200 wifi. The results were not any better of course results will vary from house to house.

Yes I said this. And I recommend the Powerline adapters . The 500MB versions work very well. Just as good and even better then some networks.

Yes I Recommend It. Its not slower then ethernet at all. I get no latancy issues and Im over 150 feet from the main PC. in my shop seperated from the main house. Make sure you use it correctly and you will have a fantastic network. I have tried both net works and I prefer the powerline. together it is a 10/10 in my books

I'm using 500Mbs powerline adapters in my house and the Steam Link runs flawlessly on that network.

What Greg said. My anecdotal experience is using 500Mbit-rated powerline adapters:
#1 Apartment, I get about 30Mbit/s between office and living room
#2 House, I get about 180Mbit/s between office and living room
YMMV

i can confirm that the powerline adaptors work beautifully with Steam Link. i have no lag on my network when playing steam link. for others it will depend on ping times due to home wiring.

I am using a 200MB/s Powerline without issue, but the house (and electronics in the walls) are less than 15 years old.

Works fine for me too
Using 500MB/s

I get about 5ms extra latency using my TP-Link powerline adapter. For most games this is fine, but for rocket league it means the difference between winning and losing. So in twitch games it's better to have a completely ethernet connection.
