Update: tested via wired connection, NO more audio stutter. I have a pretty damn nice router, wonder if there's some interference between the controller signal and the wifi signal.
As a test case I decided to try streaming from my media pc right under it (also on wifi). I played the same game, used the same controller, and had no issues whatsoever. My media PC was running on a 2.4Ghz frequency, and my steam link was on 5Ghz, both with full bars on their connection display.
Guess I will leave it on wired until the issue is fixed.
Win10 host PC wired (gigabit) to my WRT1900AC router (running OpenWRT v15.05). Steam Link connected via 5GHz WiFi about 10-15 feet away from the router. Wireless Steam Controller.
This is the only major issue I have with my Link at the moment. If this is resolved I'd consider it pretty perfect.
But surely the behavior observed here does seem to be steam link related. Not bandwidth or whatsoever. It certainly feels like as if whenever controller input is processed or send back to the host machine that the decoding/rendering thread is blocked for a very small amount of time.
But thats a blunt diagnosis from outsidde. I'm sure your dev team will figure it out. Keep the updates coming! :-)
I'm having the same problem, and have been emailing Valve to try and figure it out. What I'm trying to deduce is what causes it to happen. It looks like all of us are using 5 GHz AC to connect the Link to the router, so maybe that's it?
Desperately want to solve this problem before my review goes live :/
