Steam Link - no audio
I setup my Steam Link and there is audio in the steam link UI. When I connect to my host computer I can see all my games and play them, but get no audio from big picture mode or from in game. I read that changing my host audio settings to 16-bit and 48khz may help. That didn't help. I'm running DVI on my host machine, does it matter that it's not HDMI? I'm streaming at 1080/60ish so I don't think it's a connection issue.

Anyone else have an audio issue? It's not surround sound that I'm trying to hook up either, just sound in general. I'm open to any suggestions.

Try changing the playback devices on your host machine. I have a wonky setup to deal with some issues but setting it back to go straight through my headset gives me sound on the link while it doesn't with my usual setup.

Thanks. I have a ASUS Xonar DGX audio card and the only playback devices it's letting me select are ones related to that. The other ones say nothing is plugged in and I can't select them. I'll try unplugging my headset (I don't have speakers on my host, only a headset) and see if that does anything.

The weird thing is I also get sound when I launch Portal 2 and the valve head guy is on the screen, but then no sound in Portal 2.

Okay! I've fixed it. I have to have my headset plugged into my onboard audio and then select that as the default playback when I want audio on Steam Link. I use the ASUS card for my host machine normally, but with that plugged in, I can't get audio on Steam Link. I think I'll get a pair of cheap headphones and keep 'em plugged in so I can switch the audio options on my host machine without having to unplug my headphones from the ASUS card and switch em over to onboard every time.

Thanks for the help! Hope this post helps others as well!!

I found another solution to this, at least it worked for me. In the windows sound option the steam apllication sound was set to zero so I just put it up and then I had sound on steam link. Maybe this helps someone too.

Problem I have, is that when I stream games it disables Audio on my PC (get audio fine via TV)
However since I use a wireless headset, I am now no longer able to use TeamSpeak\Mumble since I cannot hear or talk in either program.

So using the Steam Link is pointless if I cannot communicate with the other players in games I am playing..

*EDIT*
Well it seems it just mutes audio on the PC it is streaming from.
So I have to start streaming via the Steam Link, go back to my PC and unmute the audio on the PC, then go back and play the game on my TV..
Solved the issue, but it is a pain having to walk back to my PC just to unmute it's audio, so I can use VOIP programs.
Yet another common sense thing Valve or their testers (HA!) did not think about.

I was having the same problem. This solved it for me. Thanks for sharing!

I was having this issue and had to disable some hardware effects from my Asus Xonar control pannel (game mode and Dolby Headphone). Worked well after that.

I've got a Xonar DG, and the solution I've found is to switch the audio to S/PDIF Pass-through Device and it works in the Link UI.

What does that mean? Where is this setting? I've got a DGX and dont see it anywhere.

I've also tried everything I can think of and nothing is getting my audio to work with my Steam Link. No audio whatsoever in menus or in-game. Really, really annoying.

Just wanted to say, I installed the latest audio drivers for my Asus Xonar DGX and audio is working now. I dont know if that's what fixed it specifically(previously had other problems that just fixed themselves), but it's worth a try for anybody with similar issues. Even just try reinstalling them if yours are up-to-date.

It seems Steam doesn't like certain sound cards/output devices when streaming using big picture mode. I have a presonus audio interface that I use as my default output device, and the audio would constantly drop out. I had to turn off the device and use my PC's onboard audio as the default output device in order to get it working.

I have also run into this issue. My PC uses an ASUS Xonar DX audio card. I attempted many of the solutions mentioned above, and here are the results:

- Unmuting my PC speakers didn't work for me. The audio just funnels out of my computer speakers instead of my TV speakers.
- Updating my ASUS Xonar DX audio drivers didn't work for me. It worked for a little bit, but the problem returned once I restarted my Steam Link.
- Setting the S/PDIF Pass-Through Device as my default communications device didn't work for me.
- Plugging a headset into my PC worked for me. This only works, however, if the headset is plugged into my PC when I turn on my Steam Link. Switching audio outputs while my Steam Link is turned on doesn't appear to work.

I hope that Valve has noticed that many of us are using weird and inconvenient workarounds to resolve this issue. Then again, these are band-aids, not actual solutions.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

I'm probably over thinking this, but where exactly are you making this change? As soon as I start a game, I get no sound. Prior to that, I get sound when moving throughout the Steam Link UI. Hoping this is a simple adjustment but unclear where you're doing this.
