PC = NO
MAC = I DON'T HAVE ONE
Didn't work i tried it twice
Try connecting the Ethernet ports between the Steam Link and the PC, NO ROUTERS!
It worked for me when I connected the ethernet cable between the two without using the router, wireless is still recommended for internet connection.
The first update bar screamed passed like it had an update pending already or was just going through the motions. I worked on it for an hour and could get it connected to my 5ghz guest network, subnet 10.xx however it wouldn't connect to my LAN 5ghz as I wanted. I fought it a bit checking Net Isolation (which is on of course with my guest network) but not on the main WD0 and WD1 devices using DD-WRT (Kong Edition, R7000)
I went and did a factory restore which of course rebooted and finally that update took about 8 mins to complete. You know, the one that blew by the first time? Yeah, so after a few more updates once I configured Wireless I was able to connect to only my 2.4ghz band but not the 5ghz hidden/WPA2'ed band which is still odd.
Even so, to get some time using it I let it go on the 2.4ghz network (of which I have roughly 13 devices using QoS to remain somewhat 'usable' during peak hours my teenagers are using Xbox/PS5/Steam PC's as well the wife playing all kinds of mobile games; yadda yadda.
I'm impressed and it finally connected to my main desktop (spec's in profile) which even on balanced was amazing encoding on graphics, sound and input.
TL;DR: You may want to factory restore and see if it applies the patches again possibly correct this time because it's apparent mine did not on first power-up. Good Luck and if I find a reason for not being able to connect to my mainline 5ghz private band (I'm reckoning channel I'm using as a prime culprit) I'll report back in hopes those with 5ghz bands on DD-WRT get some ideas.
Cheers,
~Icky
I did and worked immediately
I didn't know this was something that needed to be enabled, nor did they mention it in the quickguide.
I even logged a ticket and they sent me a link with advanced troubleshooting (like opening ports on my router) which did not resolve the issue.
Why couldn't they have mentioned this in the quickguide or in the interface?
(at least I got a reply from Steam support within a day :P )
I use a Fritzbox 7490 as a router and I just couldn't find my host computer, regardless of what I did. Turns out, the Fritzbox (great piece of hardware by the way) has a feature that one of its LAN ports is designated "guest" port and allowed to access the internet but not the home network. This is a neat security feature for power plug networks but it was a pain to find and isolate as the error source. After 2 hours of trying I found this little option, disable it et voila the Steamlink can suddenly find my PC.
