How To Guide: Xbox one wireless adapter working with Steam link
Items Needed:
-Steam link
- *EXTRA CONRTOLLER, Steam, PS4, XBOX one (needs a detachable USB cable) *
-Xbox one adapter
-Xbox one controller
-Virtualhere

***Virtual Here has changed it is no longer free and can be pruchased through Steam(12/29/2016)****

Steps
- Pre-sync the Xbox one adapter with the controller at your host pc and then disconnect from usb once synced.

- Attach the Xbox one adapter to the steam link but DO NOT TURN ON the xbox one controller just yet.

- Insure that the EXTRA controller is attached via usb cable and can be unplugged from the controller itself.

-Turn on the steam link

-On the host pc run VirtualHere and select the XBOX ACC. It should now say "in use by you"

-On the steam link navigate to the game you wish to play using the EXTRA controller, once the game is started up unplug the EXTRA controller and use the same cable that it was attached to attach to the xbox one controller to the steam link.

- FOR STEAM CONTROLLERS, WAIT FOR THE STEAM CONTOLLER TO TURN OFF

-The xbox one controller should be able to control the game at this point. If so unplug the xbox one controller and hit the "home button" to link it to the xbox one adapter.

That should be it the controller should now work flawlessly as long as the steam controller does not come back on.

- Know issue - wired Xbox one fallout 4 controller will not work as the "extra" controller.

*Edited from just steam controller to "extra" controller.

*******(Update 12/29/2016) The new Xbox One controllers no longer need the Xbox dongle and can connect to the steam link via Bluetooth. Just hit the sync button on the xbox one controller will in the bluetooth settings on the steam link and add the controller (additional device required in order to navigate menus).

I have attempted (with no luck) various other programs for USB over network but the best bet is really virtual here, though it is a shame it is no longer free for one USB device.

Yeah, I don't know why we should pay for something that should been in the Steam Link from the beginning...
i've attecched the pad with a normal usb cable and it works.. i don't want to pay for that .. really
that's not useful if you want to play with friends someday. Wireless is required IMO.

Ultimately its down to Microsoft, not Valve about this issue.

In theory the new Xbox Wireless controller works over bluetooth but only with Windows 10, otherwise a cable or the Wireless Adapter is required. Microsoft being the pain they are made the wireless adapter a closed device so adding support for it requires hacks.

An extra $20 on top of the $50 I paid for the Steam Link to get functionality that should be supported natively. I could not be more disappointed with the Steam Link or Valve. I doubt I will ever buy another piece of Steam hardware again.

Yes, is so ridiculous how Valve did not this and can do it easily if they want (as Dualshock 4 wirelessly) and some, indies, programmers have did it and putting multiple controllers at same time as separated DLC! HAHA

Why doesn't Valve build the VirtualHere functionality into the Steam Link natively so everyone doesn't have to spend another $20 on software? I am really upset about this. I'm not rich.

Ye, Steam is doing so bad... We should pay $50 for Steam Link + Shipping + taxes (Because not everybody lives in the USA) and a simply update is not possible?

Question can you use the wireless xbox adaptor on steam without steam link
Limp Squirrel 28 ENE 2017 a las 7:04 p. m.
so, if I understand. The Xbox One controller now works over bluetooth with Steam Link without the need for any software or additional dongles? Straight up out-of-the-box bluetooth connection?

If you have one of the new Xbox One controllers with Bluetooth that were released alongside the Xbox One S in August 2016. Older controllers did not have Bluetooth - they use a proprietary radio frequency and so require a USB dongle tuned to this frequency - but the new controllers have both. You can see the difference between the old and new controllers here - http://support.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-on-windows/accessories/connect-and-troubleshoot-xbox-one-bluetooth-issues-windows-10

aha, in this case, I might have ordered a version of the controller that does not support bluetooth. It was not particularly mentioned in the specs.

Unless someone can tell from the images on the sales page?
