Hardware encoding won't work
I have an amd hd 7850 and an i3 3220 that supports quick sync. I have enabled the igpu in the bios and it shows in my device manager as active. All drivers are updated. I'm running the beta build on my link and the public build on the steam client. I have enabled hardware encoding on the host computer. In big screen mode I have tried enabling amd hardware encoding and Intel encoding. But the encoder that shows in the performance graph always ends in x264. I've tried running divinity original sin, pillars of eternity, dark souls 2, and darksiders 2. It doesn't matter which boxes are checked under hardware encoding. The results are the same. It's like the settings don't register.

Make sure you have the latest crimson driver from AMD. You have to have hardware encoding only checked for AMD GPU. Although the latest steam update will default to software if hardware cant keep up. But once you set it to hardware encoding you have to restart your steam as well as your steam link thats what made it stick for me

I tried that too. How do I know if it's the hardware not keeping up and software kicking in or if it just isn't working?

So when ur GPU is encoding i have an R9 390 it says game polled + AMF H264 something like that<--- this means hardware encoding. Software will say intel quick sync. In the link options theres a setting to turn on a performance monitor that will tell you what its using. So if you enable hardware encoding and only check the AMD hardware encoding it should encode only with that now if the fps or stream quality is slow it will automatically switch to software encoding.

For me Hardware encoding makes the game look amazing. I have an FX8350 cpu so the software encoding makes the graphics look kinda crappy. What sucks is the latest steam update now reverts back to software if its logic thinks the hardware cant keep up. Steam is still working on AMD hardware encoding to be better. It was terrible when i first got the link back in october. Also i would try the beta builds on both link and steam client

Where can I Activate Hardware encoding for AMD GPU???

I know it is currently using software even when I have the amd box checked. I want to know if it's because my hardware can't keep up or if it's a bug that amd hardware encoding won't run. I guess there is no way of knowing

Thats weird i had a HD7950 and hardware encoding worked on that as well. When you go into settings in the steam client you change the HOST settings to hardware encoding AMD hardware encoding right?

Yes. In the Steam client I check the box for hardware encoding under the in home streaming section of settings. In big picture mode I have made sure that only the amd option is selected. This is on the host computer. When I connect the steam link to the computer I check the settings again and the amd box is still checked. It doesn't work though. I've double checked the Dxdiag and it says hardware acceleration is enabled on my host pc.

Maybe your GPU doesnt support it ? If you have the latest Crimson drivers from AMD and it still doesnt work then its like ur PC does recognize your GPU maybe idk its weird

From the reading I've done it should support it. I've also gone through the steps to enable quick sync and it doesn't work either.

You may have to uninstall steam and re-install it. I recall doing that at one point as well when my hardware encoding was not working.

I'll give that a try after work. Thank you.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Steam worked! Much better performance now. Thank you.

No Problem glad it works
