So just want to follow this tread just in case there is a solution.
This had happened once before, but it was fixed by reconnecting. I use mine every week so something has happened recently. Steam update messed with it perhaps?
Like OP, the host 'shows' sound is playing, but it isn't being streamed.
I've tried:
- changing audio devices back & forth
- power cycling TV/host pc/steam link
- uninstalling & reinstalling steam streaming audio devices
- changing default audio devices back & forth
- changing steam/steam link/host pc audio settings
- changing HDMI
I did prior to the issue to cause any different behaviour so I'm assuming it's some sort of update that has caused this - frustrating but at least we're in solidarity haha!
Edit: Additionally, I use mine every night, and I first noticed this yesterday evening (~24hrs ago) - I was streaming perfectly on Friday afternoon
Edit 2: Found this potential fix in the pinned thread posted by Rock:
"The fix for me was:
In Steam (not Link) -> Settings -> Remote Play -> Play Audio on Host (should be toggled on)"
Give that a go & see, I'll do the same! Good luck!
Edit 3: Yep, I've switched that & can confirm it's working for me - you will have to enable the advanced options within that remote play area in your host pc's steam settings & the "Play Audio on Host" option should appear.
Make sure it's toggled on & you should be golden! Thanks all! & Rock hahah!
Edit: had to reselect the steam streaming device from fullscreen, didn't auto change.
I came to the same conclusions, I have to "Play sound on host" active, then the sound will play both on my PC and on my TV. If I disable it, it will not play at all, and the source will correctly change to "steam streaming speakers" (which doesn't currently work).
I tried uninstalling the drivers, unpairing, rebooting, I even tried it on my phone for the first time, and the results were exactly the same. There must've been some wackyness going on in a recent update. I hope this will be noticed so it can be fixed.
Cheers!
disable all other unused audio devices
also check windows mixer volumes, make sure steam client/bootstrapper volume is maxed
