Way to record Steam Link via Elgato capture device?
I wanna record some steam games through my steam link, but I was wondering if it was even working when I plugged it in. If someone can give me some sort of picture or visual of how to record through the steam link via elgato (applied it's possible) it would be appreciated.

Shouldn't it 'just work'? I mean the Steam Link outputs a normal 1080p image.

Unfortunately it doesn't work right out of the box, I tried connecting the Steam Link HDMI cable to my El Gato input, but there is HDCP protection that causes a black screen.

You can circumvent this by purchasing an HDMI splitter, not just any one, it has to be one that strips out HDCP, here is a link to the one I am currently using with success:

http://www.amazon.com/ViewHD-Powered-Splitter-1080P-Model/dp/B004F9LVXC?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Bought it off of amazon, I use this one to stream from my PS3 as well using my El Gato HD.

Good luck, if you want catch our streams on http://twitch.tv/theexpgrind I stream every Friday night - and Ill start streaming from my Steam Link as well.

As I write this reply, i litterally just finished my hook up of the Steam Link and my El Gato HD, I'll upload some screencaps later on.

Rather upsetting that we need to pay $16 to get the steam link to work for our intended purpose. We bought the thing specifically to stream games we were going to record without dragging entire extra PCs into our recording space (for heat and noise reasons on top of the convenience). This seems like a very strange oversight for the Steam Link to leave the hdcp on when it's streaming non-hdcp content like any game we would otherwise be able to record from an hdmi port.

Update: with a bit of finagling we have got it working through the not-so-well-documented screen streaming side of things. Step 1: get it streaming the screen instead of the Steam UI. Step 2: switch your hdmi cable over to your capture device.
