*Changes in build 449*
Added the ability to force 720p output by putting the word 720p in a file on a USB drive at \steamlink\config\system\display_resolution.txt, inserting it into the Steam Link and then power cycling the Steam Link
More than likely your HDMI switch is telling the Link that 1080i is OK and the Link starts outputting 1080i. But the TV doesn't like that. When connected direct to TV, the TV reports 720P to the Link and it does that.
Try that and let us know if it resolves your issue!
Other users report a clear picture using the 720P mode forced with USB stick.
What model TV, HDMI switch, and DVI adapter are you using?
Did the steam link restart on it's own? Maybe it was performing an update. Take care not to unplug it during updates - directly connect the Link to TV with HDMI, force 720P with the USB trick and make sure all is good, then put the switch back in and see if it still works.
I'm sorry if the following sites are in Swedish.
I'm using a Philips plasma TV (philips 42pf7520d/10). It's quite an old one, no HDMI inputs.

This is the HDMI Switch I'm using: http://www.discatonce.se/se/kablar-kabelsortering/hdmi-kabel/adapters-tillbehor/deltaco-manuell-hdmi-switch-4-ingangar-till-en-utgang.php
The DVI adapter - http://www.clasohlson.com/se/HDMI-till-DVI-D-adapter-Exibel/38-1609

Your TV user manual says it can be set in "PC mode" or "HD mode" for the DVI input. Which one are you using? Can you try to change it?
Plasma has been dead for years, it might be time to invest in current tech.
I tried that and makes no difference. But here's a very interesting finding. I tried to switch around cables, and it seems like the HDMI cable that came with Steam doesn't work for both my Wii U and Steam Link! Or if I try it so it's the main cable that connects to the TV, it gives the distorted images.
Unfortunately, I'm out of HDMI cables to try both my devices plugged in to my switch. I'll let you guys know as soon as I get a hold of a another one!
Perhaps there's something about the cable?
