Mismatched controller configuration when using Steam Link
Hello folks, I've come upon a very weird issue that I hope I'll be able to explain in as much detail as needed.

I'm using a controller, which when plugged directly into my PC is identified by Steam as an XBox controller. It's not, it's a generic controller shaped like a PS2/3 one, but everything works fine nonetheless.

The weird stuff starts happening when I play through the Steam Link. The device is suddenly detected a a PS3 controller (yay?), but both while browsing in Big Picture mode and while playing, the functionalities of the "square" and "triangle" buttons are swapped. Moreover, if I try to remap the controller's buttons, everything looks empty (https://imgur.com/a/3EqwQFO, picture 1) and the controller itself becomes unresponsive. Using the mouse to press cancel puts me in the situation displayed by picture 2, and I'm able to navigate the rows using mouse and keyboard OR press a single direction on the controller before it becomes unresponsive again. Leaving this screen in any way, even by pressing "circle" with the single input I'm allowed, makes the device work again, albeit with the swapped buttons described above;

It's really weirding me out, especially since in the past I've been able to use the Steam Link without any issues, using this very same controller. Any advice you can give me is much appreciated.

I'm experiencing a similar problem.

I bought a couple of generic gamepads ( https://www.easysmx.com/collections/game-controllers/products/easysmx-esm-9101-wireless-gaming-controller ) and when I connect to Steam Link it recognizes as Nintendo Switch Pro controllers instead of generic or XBox.

It's a bit annoying because buttons A/B and X/Y are interchanged.

post the pid vid of the controllers so they can be added properly

you can use select them and ctrl+c to copy lines from device manager, and ctrl+v to paste them here

Just wanted to let y'all know that I was able to solve the issue with the swapped buttons by resetting my controller's configuration from the very first Steam Link screen, the one in which you choose which machine to stream from. Still unresponsive in the configuration menu shown in the screenshots, though.

its near impossible to use the controller to remap itself in the link menu
use a k/m to config or set its mappings

Hi there. I have the very same problem. My EasySMX Controllers are recognized as XBOX 360 Controller on my PC, but as soon as I connect them to the Steam Link hardware, they are recognized as Nintendo Switch Controllers. I can only remap my buttons in the config menu but not reset the whole controller or choose an XBoxController. Any Ideas?

first one
USB\VID_045E&PID_028E&REV_0100
USB\VID_045E&PID_028E

second one
USB\VID_045E&PID_028E&REV_0100
USB\VID_045E&PID_028E

those are the VID/PID I was able to find while having them activated on PC

So if I just post the id numbers here, will it be added correctly? I'm also having this problem.

Hi there,
same problem here with the EasySMX Wireless Controller ESM-9013 2.4G and same VID/PID 045E/028E. Now, after the latest Steam Link updates, most of the times it is unfortuntately detected as Nintendo Switch Pro controller instead of XBOX360, as it was time ago.
No way to let it be detected always as XBOX360?

Thanks a lot.
