FIFA 17 problems working with steam link
I'm attempting to get fifa 17 working with my steam link and an xb1 controller. My steam link has a good wired connection and I'm using the controller wired to the steam link. I added fifa 17 to steam and it loads up fine on my tv, but it will only recognize my xb1 controller as a keyboard and mouse and not as a controller. Has anyone figured out a workaround for this problem?

I have exactly the same problem. The xbox one controller (usb to steam link) is not recognize in game (at the moment who choice the team there is a keyboard not controller). The button works fine but the stick was mouse
i found the solution last night.

1 : in the fifasetup folder, go to config.ini file and add a line : " AUTO_LAUNCH = 1"
2 : desactivate overlay steam
3 : desactivate overlay origin

Works perfectly for me

Thanks.
I had the same problem, I found a simple solution, try this:

Add Origin as non steam game
Run Origin on steam link (should run in the background)
Run Origin again (Should launch fullscreen)
Run Fifa 17 from Origin

Hope this helps guys!

Hello all,

I also had the same issue with SteamLink + Xbox Controller + Non-Steam game (FIFA17).
I solved the problem by using VirtualHere

Beside the extra cost :( it works on wired controller only.

  1. Buy, Install, Start VirtualHere on your computer using Steam
  2. Plug your Xbox controller on the SteamLink
  3. In SteamLink settings, go to VirtualHere section then enable the feature on your controller port
  4. Start the streaming (you should heard a sound, like when Windows installs a new device)
  5. Launch a non steam game... it should recognize your Xbox controller instead of Keyboard/Mouse

Hope it helps.

Note : for FIFA17 I had to set " AUTO_LAUNCH = 1" config.ini file to skip the launcher

I haven't had such luck, including trying those steps. Wired or wireless the new Xbox One Controller firmware is broken outside of steam games on the Link. I've posted everything I know here:

As an update on this, since I had a couple of hair-pulling hours this morning trying to get this working, here's what I've worked out:

[[Using Steam Link with a wired XBox 360 controller]]

The problem seems to be with the Steam Overlay working in Origin games. The Steam Link can provide a passthrough for your controller using VirtualHere and can emulate the Steam Controller on an XBox 360 controller. This only works if the Steam Overlay is functional in the game.

Here's what you need to do to make sure your Steam Overlay shows up in Fifa:

Create a link to a non-Steam Product in Steam: Go to Steam>Games>Add A Non-Steam Game To My Library
Browse to the location of your Fifa executable (mine's at D:\Origin Games\FIFA 17\FIFA17.exe).

Once that's done, find Fifa 17 in Steam, right-click it and go to Properties. In 'Start In', you need to add the location of your Origin install (so mine is D:\Origin\Origin.exe) AS WELL AS the location of your game.

Your Start In should look something like this:

"D:\Origin Games\FIFA 17\" "D:\Origin\Origin.exe"

You need to make sure the Origin overlay is not enabled. You can turn that off by going to Origin>Application Settings>More>Origin In-Game and turning off "Enable Origin In-Game".

~~~~~~~
Last couple of things to make sure you have set:
Make sure you have the VirtualHere setting enabled (it's in the Steam Link menu (the one before you select which PC to stream)).
Make sure in the Steam Big Picture settings you have 'XBox Emulation Enabled' ticked. If you're using a PS3/4 controller, I believe there's an option for that too.
~~~~~~~

You'll know it's worked when you can hit the XBox Guide button when Fifa is running and the focused window and it opens to a screen which gives you an option to 'Configure Controller' (as one of 6 or 7 options, not the one with just 2).
Do that and select 'Show Other Controller Types', browse to 'Templates' and find the one for your controller (that was 'XBox 360 Controller' for me).

Hope this sorts it for you and good luck!

Hi all,

I also had the same controller issue but it was fixed by running Origin in compatibility mode (Win 7) and disabling Origin In Game.
But some days ago, Origin was updated and the controller isn't working again! I have the same configuration but when I run FIFA, it doesn't work as a controller but as a keyboard + mouse.

Did someone also had problems with this Origin update?
Currently I have Origin Version 10.4.10.46586 - 0

I also have the same problem since a week. I have noticed that Origin was not running on Compatibilty Mode anymore. I've changed it from properities but it did not made any difference. So sad, i am using link only for fifa and 2k16. Now fifa is gone :(
any improvemments
In my case, I always have to downgrade Origin after they launch an upgrade... it is quite annoying once Origin requires the upgrade to continue playing online.
So I tried some stuff too. For me it worked when I set the Display-Resoultion down to 1980x1080 and turned the Windowed mode on smooth gameplay and controller regoc :)
