Just use internet sharing on the ethernet port.
It seems like Win10 dosent let me open a network for my link. The link cant "see" my pc and the other way around :/
Thanks for any help.
As an admin on the network you can give access. Inside of steam just enable streaming.
I, too, wish to continue directly to my pc. The reason is that I don't have a modem available and there will be kids who want to play on the TV. Can't play on TV without the steam link and it requires Ethernet/wifi. There's no modem in the house, so the only way to achieve this is by connecting directly to the pc. Otherwise i get a bunch of b****ds hovering all over my pc and i refuse to allow that.
Wow, I've got to say I'm shocked that all just works!
Sure wouldn't have in the past...and of course requires that the PC's Ethernet port handles...I don't even remember what it's called anymore, that "reverse mode" for doing stuff like this. Very cool it works! Sort of becomes like having an extra long HDMI cable then!
I'll be honest though, I used to have it setup this way but for a long time I have been unable to use internet sharing in Windows 10. I found a lot of comments on forums about it.
For now I connect to the wifi instead when I want to download an update to the link.
Hey, for those struggling with Windows 10 Wi-Fi sharing I was able to find the solution. I'm not sure exactly where your lost, but for me there was no drop down menu for me to choose which device to share to in the adapter settings. To get that option you need to set up a microsoft hosted virtual network. Which can be done in the command prompt by running this command:
NETSH WLAN start hostednetwork
Which will then open up a virtual network in the network connection settings that you can then use to share your Wi-Fi to the Steam Link. The network should have a name like "local area connection 16".
-Right click on the virtual network and go to properties
-Click on the sharing tab
-Check "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection"
-Use the drop down menu to choose your Ethernet cable.
Thanks!
