Home gaming cinema setup with Steam Link and projector
I am setting up a home gaming cinema with my friend whcih will run off a Steam Link but have run into an obstacle that was initially overlooked.

The Steam Link will be connected to a Panasonic PT-DZ6700 projector via HDMI to DVI cable.

Obviously, the projector cannot process or channel audio signal. Given that there is no optical out on the Steam Link and the HDMI interface is being used to transmit video to the projector, we need a solution to get audio from the Steam Link back to an amplifier.

The unused port remaining is a USB.

The question is, can the Steam Link recognise a USB External Sound Audio Sound Adapter (such as this https://smile.amazon.co.uk/UGREEN-External-Adapter-Stereo-Headset/dp/B06XP5R449/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1518779602&sr=8-4&keywords=usb+to+audio ) and channel audio out via USB? This seems the cheapest and easiest solution but perhaps not the best.

Another option is something like this: https://www.lindy.co.uk/audio-video-c2/converters-scalers-c105/hdmi-4k-arc-extractor-with-hdmi-pass-through-cec-emulation-p8864

Does anyone have any other or more creative recommendations?

Cheers

Lexus

Support for USB audio devices was added in build 487.

Another possibility is using an HDMI audio extrator.[www.amazon.ca]

Hi both,

I was just thinking about this project and realised that I'd forgotten to thank you for your suggestions. Thank you!

Steam Link support bluetooth audio. Simply connect bluetooth speakers or use a bluetooth audio receiver like this:

Seems like a nice solution for those that want to avoid trailing/visible wires but given the aim of the project is to achieve the best AV experience possible within a budget, I'd rather a wired solution given that signal through wire is typically better quality than signal transmitted over air.

The connection for audio between Steam Link and amplifier will connect by RCA cable such as the link below. But if you receive audio from the Steam Link via USB, it means that any USB adapter I purchase to connect to the amplifier should work.

Thanks

Alright, i didnt find that freaking adapter, but im sure it would work. What i did find was this:
https://www.amazon.com/Airlink-USB-2-0-Ethernet-Adapter/dp/B000VXP0ME
And it worked flawlessly...

Also did some tests with this :
http://www.toad.es/shop/es/cables-y-adaptadores/29-adaptador-vga-hdmi.html
and it also worked nicely, even the audio output is working.. that would be another cheap solution. Greetings!
