Steam Link + Gamecube Controller + MayFlash USB Adapter
Hi all,

First time poster here... But, long time visitor!

I have been trolling these forums, and the net for several days... And I am at my wits end, because I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out!

So, here is my dilemma:

1.) I have Steam installed on my computer (it runs flawlessly)

2.) I used the program "ICE" to import:
- The Dolphin Emulator (So that I can play Nintendo Gamecube games)

3.) With that, I only have one game that I want to play, and that is:
- Mario Kart Double Dash (I used "ICE" to import this game as well)

4.) Knowing that, I can launch "Mario Kart Double Dash" from Steam without any issues! (It opens up in the Dolphin emulator without any problems, and runs perfectly!)

**** BUT **** --- Here is where I am confused as all Hell!!!!

5.) So, I purchased an official Nintendo Gamecube controller from Amazon (The Smash Bros. Controller)

6.) With that, I also purchased the "May-Flash Gamecube Controller Adapter for Wii U & PC USB"

As a note, I have already installed the correct drivers to my PC, and mapped out the controller in the Dolphin emulator. - So when I plug the adapter directly into my PC, I am able to open up Steam in using my PC's mouse... And then launch Steam's "Big Picture Mode" (Which is exactly what it does on the Steam Link, which is located downstairs on our big screen TV in the living room).

Once I am in "Big Picture Mode," (Still on my PC at this point) I can use my newly purchased Gamecube controller (which is plugged into my "May-Flash" adapter, which is in turn, plugged directly into my PC... And it works PERFECTLY!

All of the buttons work as they should, the controller analog sticks work as they should... So on, and so on! Then, when I launch Mario Kart Double Dash, and start to play, it works PERFECTLY as well! It is exactly like playing it on an actual Gamecube!

So, with all of that... You might be wondering.. where the crud is this dude's problem?

Well, here it is:

7.) When I unplug my "May-Flash" adapter, and grab my Gamecube controller and carry them downstairs to plug directly into my Steam Link... I am able to navigate the initial menu of Steam Link (Meaning, I click my PC, so that the Steam Link sync's up with my computer and launches "Big Picture Mode," but in doing so... I have to use the "X" button on the Gamecube controller. (Because for whatever reason it does not recognize the "A" button as doing anything... And regarding that matter, the Steam Link does not recognize any of the buttons, other than the "X" button and the main analog stick.

8.) Furthermore, using the analog stick and the "X" button, I am able to navigate to Mario Kart Double Dash and launch the game (From my Steam's library)... But once it starts, absolutely NO button works, whatsoever.

SO, that is where my problem lies... Everything works perfectly when it is directly plugged into my PC, but once I plug it into my Steam Link... It's like the damn thing loses its brain... And does not work (Other than the "X" button and the main analog stick").

Does anyone have any ideas regarding this...

I cannot find much documentation regarding this topic, and the stuff that does exist, does not involve Steam Link.. It just explains how to get a Gamecube controller working with Steam on my PC, with everything hooked to your PC directly. (Which I already have done, and it works fine)

For those of you who read this far, I truly appreciate it! Sorry it was such a lengthy post, but I wanted to paint an EXACT picture of what was going on!

Thank you in advance for all those who might have some helping words!

Cheers,

Basmastersix

You need VirtualHere to passtrough your mayflash adapter+controller to your PC, otherwhise it gets recognised by Dolphin as a mouse or keyboard

Bebeto667,

Thanks for your reply!

Question about "VirtualHere" though.

Does the VirtualHere program affect the way that a Steam Link unit connects/recognizes controllers? (Meaning, when I plug my MayFlash adapter into my Steam Link and then my GameCube controller into the adapter)

Or if anyone else can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Any luck with the controllers?

My controllers also have "X" as my confirm button, even with VirtualHere running on my computer. While using the Steam Link, I see no changes VirtualHere. It doesn't seem to pick up anything. I'm wondering what I need to change.

I have the same exact setup as you. My home pc is downstairs. My steam link is upstairs, along with my mayflash adapter and 4 gamecube controllers.

If I only had 4 wavebirds, I could just leave the mayflash adapter in my pc and just play like that. Oh well. :(

The farthest I've got is to the point of enabling the Mayflash adapter on the Steam Link. On Dolphin, I have the controllers set to Standard Controller. That's the farthest I've been in this whole situation and now I'm stuck.
