Steam Link limited to 30 mbps while wired?
Hello Steam Community,

I just upgraded my TV and decided to set up my Steam Link again. Most things works fine, but I noticed that my bandwidth is limited to 30 mbps, both wireless and wired, which impacts my desktop streaming. I have tried adjusting the settings (setting to fast, changing to unlimited, etc.) but to no avail. I thought switching to wired would solve this - as I read Steam Link is 100mb wired, but I am still getting the same result. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong here?

In case it's helpful, I am on a I7 3770k and GTX 1080TI with 32gb of DDR4 ram.

Thanks in advance!

Video is choppy when streaming my desktop. Gaming is fine so far. Also, I have read that Steam Link is supposed to be able to do 100mbps via Ethernet, so it's a bit frustrating to be locked at 30 even if that is "enough".

check the host streaming settings

steam -> settings -> remote play -> [advanced client options] -> limit bandwidth = unlimited or 30+mb/s

Thanks, but I have set to unlimited to no avail. Steam Link shows it is connected via ehternet but still maxing out at 30mbps. I guess I will just need to find another option for sharing my desktop.

Appreciate the help folks.

The choppiness while streaming the desktop isn't due to the bandwidth limitation. Steam switches to a different capture method outside of games under the apparent assumption that smooth 60fps video isn't necessary when viewing mostly static images.

I don't personally agree, but desktop capture being choppier than in game capture has been an issue since pretty much day one of the Steam Link.

steam should be capturing desktop at 60fps

make sure its using a direct connection, not steams internet relays

windows network set to private not public
router wifi isolation disabled
steam -> settings -> remote play -> allow direct connection = auto/all/my

and enable stats on the link to verity ping, and bandwidth usage
streaming a static desktop with nothing moving will be <5mb/s
