"Hold Escape key to control remote session" causing issues

I have been using the steam link for over a year now and this has only recently been popping up when I am streaming to my tv. This message never goes away even if I hold the ESC key and after releasing it all the buttons on my keyboard now do different things such as pulling up start search menu, or opens email. Once this starts happening I have no choice but to completely turn off steam link to get it to stop. The message only appears on my tv when I am streaming to it. It only pops up after an hour or so once I start streaming. Please help!

it should go away

I have held esc for over a minute but it still does not go away

if you are using a k/m on the link there is no real need for the overlay
disable it
link menu -> settings -> streaming -> advanced
change overlay key to none and disable overlay
